Description Solidity is in short supply, but gravity is abundant. A drawing done to test the extra fine point Sharpie Paint marker I bought today (the very faint white clouds), which proved slightly disappointing. The rest of the drawing was done in Elmer's Painters markers, Gelly Roll gel pen, and Sharpie Magnum black marker. Done while watching Chrome and Hot Leather, the second biker movie I've seen this week to feature William Smith as the villain.

I do like that white sharpie, and the shadows. Unique mysterious, possibly timeless beings, er, giants. Possibly colossi, which is a word that doesn't get used enough.

The white sharpie is okay, but it has flow troubles
Neither do "cyclopian" or "stygian"

My favorite part of this picture is how you drew the sun. You managed to capture the fiery look of a sun as seen from space, though we seem to be looking at it from a planet. Still, it brings pictures of space to mind, and the textures of all those many constant explosions which make up a star.

It must be a good day out for an alien to work on his tan then ^^
Thanks so much

Trippy-terrific; again, I so enjoy how you "bring out" the figures with white-work, overtop the initial dark scrubs! It's a magical technique, Brother! The detailing on the head of the far-right figure is just awesome! --- Ahh, my friend, be careful with those Magnum fumes (hoo, I used to use one of those in a small space, heady-stuff!)

You're getting good results with weird materials. They're probably not so lightfast or archival, though. Maybe try tube acrylics?

leothefox In reply to Torquinox [2012-04-18 18:18:36 +0000 UTC]

I don't suppose I can get away with just spraying the cardboard and hoping that saves it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Torquinox In reply to leothefox [2012-04-18 18:30:51 +0000 UTC]

Saving is relative. Your surface is chipboard. Besides, unless you leave it in a sunny window, it'll take time to fade. It's just that sharpie marker really does fade over time. I was having that discussion with =madbaumer37 not so long ago. Markers are a problem.

So, basically, any cheap or easy medium is just going to evaporate given enough time?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Torquinox In reply to leothefox [2012-04-18 19:00:26 +0000 UTC]

Yeah! No, not that bad. You just need to choose reasonably archival materials. We have plenty of ink drawings left from the Renaissance. Watercolor is a good choice, but don't worry about it. Reasonable care will give your work decades of life. I suspect my own works will eventually turn black due to the glycol I use to prevent clogs and tip dry, but it's what I've got. And it beats fighting clogs and tip dry.

leothefox In reply to Torquinox [2012-04-18 19:06:36 +0000 UTC]

Sharpie oughta take the word "permanent" off the label then. False advertising!
Is there such a thing as an archival marker? Also, does India Ink last?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Torquinox In reply to leothefox [2012-04-18 19:20:48 +0000 UTC]

It's a clothing marker, made to go through the wash. It's good for that!
Archival markers? I don't think so, but markers are a ridiculously wasteful product. Any good black drawing ink will last decades. I think that or thinned artist's acrylic on decent watercolor paper is about as affordable and archival as anything else you can buy. It also opens lots of possibilities for your work. You can apply it with steel pens, brushes, sprayers, old toothbrushes, q-tips, whatever you want! And when you're done, you can photograph or scan it. So, there you go!

I'm just so in love with the textures that come with the Magnums though >.<
That felt end can do so much! But I suppose if it was feasible to put
better ink in a marker it'd be out there for sale >.>
Is the same true of my office pens? Do those fade just as readily?

Is there a printing method that lasts like forever?

Torquinox In reply to leothefox [2012-04-18 20:42:23 +0000 UTC]

*blink* Nothing lasts forever, but if you take care of your drawings, they're not going to evaporate.

leothefox In reply to Torquinox [2012-04-19 07:03:23 +0000 UTC]

Well, not literally forever, just a real long time, I meant. Most of my art doesn't see much light.
