OK, this is so wild, I love it!  Plot right out of the 30's done with Art like Enki Bilal from the old Metal Hurlant... its like something I would dream about.

Huh, that was maybe more revealing than I intended....

Hehe thanks very much for that. This is what happens when
a Flash Gordon fanatic becomes obsessed with surrealism

Now I have a window into your mind

I wonder if you could not submit some of these for publication?
Maybe once a week in a newspaper?
It's very entertaining, and you have such an original style!

I wonder if there's any place that still takes this kind of thing. I'd have better luck with some nostalgic magazine or website.

Hey...all you can do is try.
I like this Nick Hatchet series because...
It reminds me of the stuff i saw at six on Saturday mornings when i was a kid
It reminds me of the stuff i read when i was a kid
It has the same kind of wording and plot formation...but
It has an original bent to it
and the art work is way cool and original, too.
I'll bet a lot of people would enjoy it.
You can always send out some stuff and see what happens.
Rejections letters always make for good scratch paper!
And maybe someone will be young enough or open minded enough to give it a shot!

That'd sure be nice. I'll have to poke around for an opened minded punlishing entity.

You do know that the prof and his assistant are aware of the doom that awaits them?

Unless the bomb isn't the real doom.

leothefox In reply to shaktipat [2010-02-13 09:35:50 +0000 UTC]

Hehe! Well if they manage to evade the bomb there'll surely be a dragon or some cannibals, or pirates, or bird-men, or a sea-serpent, etc.

Don't forget the vital element ... cliff hanger. Our heroes need to appear to be in inescapable peril, tune in again next week for the ridiculous escape.

Viewers reaction-"Bullshit!! that could never happen!!! OK, I forgive you, what happens next."

leothefox In reply to shaktipat [2010-02-13 10:17:07 +0000 UTC]

Tee-Hee! Yes, every strip or serial chapter (or in the case of Edgar Rice Burroughs, every novel) must end with someone plunging to their apparent doom, about to get hot with a missile, about to crash their rocket, seemingly fatally wounded, etc. It works every time ^u^

shaktipat In reply to leothefox [2010-02-13 10:29:03 +0000 UTC]

yes, the car goes off the cliff and they're gonna die!!! then next ep.; we see just before the car goes off the cliff, they untied themselves and popped the trunk just in time to roll out. Total genius.

leothefox In reply to shaktipat [2010-02-13 10:33:49 +0000 UTC]

yep! They re-cap the last 4 mins or so with like two new shots of his rope coming loose. Brilliant! I'm watching one from 1939 with Crash Corrigan called "The Undersea Kingdom"

Ha, Actually the real genius is to do what you're doing, totally embrace the convention and throw it into a gritty alien world. Who knows? This could be your ticket out of this one horse town. Later.

Ha. That's awesome. A few notes; I like the less bubbly-busy voice balloons and the blue background scenes are a great contrast to the tan panels. I also like the frame around the narration. Now you need to push your madness totally off the cliff.

I should tell you that for the longest time I though your DA name was leothe fox. I had no idea what leothe meant. I figured it was a deviation of loathe. In my head I'd say Loathe-fox. Last night I realized it was Leo the Fox. Immna still call you Loathe fox.

leothefox In reply to shaktipat [2010-02-14 07:12:04 +0000 UTC]

Sweet I'm glad those bits worked. Dun worry, more madness soon... crazy madness!

Loathe Fox? that works.

shaktipat In reply to leothefox [2010-02-14 14:52:53 +0000 UTC]

Lmao. Loathe Fox can be your super villain artist alter ego. The hulk personality of Leo the fox.

Loathe Fox Smash!!! Peace Bro. That's hilarious.

KerroPerro [2010-02-13 04:09:40 +0000 UTC]

You should add some silly alliteration like "Fiendishly Foul Foe" (except less lame than what i came up with )

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

leothefox In reply to KerroPerro [2010-02-13 04:33:39 +0000 UTC]

Tee-Hee! Not bad. That'd be a good one for the text portion. "Can Nick and his allies outwit this fiendish foul foe?"
By the way, do you think I should keep doing these?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KerroPerro In reply to leothefox [2010-02-13 04:52:12 +0000 UTC]

Yeah i do - don't overdo it of course I'd like to see some big red Art-Deco lettering saying stuff like "Danger!" too.

Am slightly disturbed that my name is in it though, but then Nick is fairly prevelant in all sorts of media....

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

leothefox In reply to KerroPerro [2010-02-13 04:58:58 +0000 UTC]

Haha! Yes.
I'm a freak for the old Flash Gordon strips. I think I'll make a couple more.

Ooops, sorry. I figured Nick was just the kind of good "American" sounding name they'd use for one of these.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KerroPerro In reply to leothefox [2010-02-13 06:06:37 +0000 UTC]

Hehe no need to apogize! It just felt a bit odd you know? I'm very used to seeing my name in movies and such but it still sometimes feels like they're reffering to me (even though my "proper" name is Nikos, but no-one ever calls me that) you ever get that when hear your name in a movie? Maybe i'm just self-absorbed...

Just to veer off slightly: have you ever seen the original Judge Dredd-strips? They were very cool old-fashioned style newspaper strips, i think they used to be published in a mag called 2000 AD. I saw a book with a collection of them once and loved 'em. Really traditional inking and brutal dystopian jokes. Good stuff.

leothefox In reply to KerroPerro [2010-02-13 06:21:42 +0000 UTC]

My name pops up less often since it's a little unusual (my legal first name isn't "Leo" in truth). But yeah, it's weird when it happens.

And yes, I've seen them. The art is superb!
