Description This is a rank chart showing the insignia for all the ranks used by the Alignment Fleet in my sci-fi.  The Alignment is currently in an undeclared cold war of sorts with the United Earth Alliance.

In-Universe:
The AF is the spaceborne military arm of the Union of Aligned Worlds, or Alignment; it operates alongside the Alignment Marines, which is the Alignment's planetside military arm.  The Alignment Fleet is widely regarded as the only force in the Diaspora Humanarum capable of standing up to the combined might of the United Earth Navy and the other Alliance navies.  Even given its considerable size, and the Alliance navies' disadvantage of their own size combined with the vast volume within which they operate, the best the AF could hope for in any war is to be outnumbered two to one.  As a result, it observes a completely different doctrine than the Alliance navies.  Whereas the Alliance navies, typified by the UEN, favour battleliners in strike groups designed to engage and close with the enemy supported by cruisers and escorts, the Alignment Fleet relies on spacecraft carriers designed to stand off from the enemy, backed up by heavy cruisers for close combat and frigates for escort and ranging duty.

As in the Alliance, the title 'Captain' is only ever applied to people in command of civilian vessels; 'Commander' is only ever applied to those in charge of military vessels, hence why the AF does not use the rank of Captain.  In the Alignment Fleet, any officer in charge of a ship being addressed as such, is addressed as 'Commander', even if they are not a Commander in rank (unless they are of a higher rank, in which case they are addressed as 'Admiral').

The waves are a cool idea.

Thanks.  I thought something other than straight bands would make a nice change.  The Royal Navy reserve used to have wavy rank stripes (they were even called the Wavy Navy) so it's not a new thing.  Thought it'd look good too.

The difference though to the Wavy Navy was that their waves were symmetrical or knotted.
Here it's one wavelength.  That's what's original, and it's what stands out in an interesting way.
