Description Here's the glow swatches everyone keeps wanting. Because I love you, that's why.

These are the predominant color swatches I use to create light effects in Zap!

Have fun! Make something purdy!

Oh, also. There's no red swatch. That's because red doesn't make glows too well. It just doesn't; its too heavy a hue. So, you'll have better results if you airbrush the center of your red object up towards orange a bit and then glow it with orange. It will still look like a glowing red object without being a gross red blob. Promise.

They can also be done by using other blend modes such as color dodge, additive and divide blend modes.

It isn't a swatch file. Open the image into your program and use the eyedropper tool to grab the colors and save them to your swatches.

ok.. i agree with your ideas . i have a suggestion if you are using illustrator. Convert these colours to swatch and save as swatch AI or ASE file to make it userfriendly. zip this file and submit in the category of Resources & Stock Images / Fractal Resources / Gradients.
Thanks Brothr
Happy X'mas.....

ooh neato.

I've been trying a new effect with glowy-ness using the dodge layer option. Basically, you fill a layer completely black, then use a lighter color on it. Its intense than screen though, especially when it comes to blinding effects. o:

I actually add all the cel shaded highlights in Zap on a dodge layer using different dark graytones. It quickly adds a highlight that is the same hue as the color I'm highlighting, so I don't have to mix/change colors. Speeds things up quite a bit.

I've really been enjoying the painterly stuff you've been doing lately. It really suits your style, and you always use such beautiful colors.

Yippee, Hooray for glowy glowiness!! I wasn't even thinking about this, but it'll go perfect for the Jedi fight I plan to draw!
Perfect timing

lightsabers are the one exception to the no red for glows rule. Since you're starting with a white base, its okay to use red.

But for all the OTHER lightsabers... there you go.

Aspiring artist: Lepas, how do you create those glows and lighting effects?

Lepas: Ancient Oklahoman secret.

From the back room: Hah, some hot shot. She just uses a nifty color swatch palette. Let's you use 30% opacity to create the effects.

Aspiring artist: Ancient Oklahoman secret, huh!
