They look so sturdy! Were they fondant?

it started with a royal icing, but I had to add so much coloring that it got too soft to make the roses so I just started adding a ton of corn startch and some other stuff til I got the right consistancy. (nobody's gonna eat it, so it didn't matter)

no...not a bad solution...but I just found out I have to make a rose garland like that for a REAL wedding cake in a couple weeks....so now I have to figure out an edible solution....hehe.
