La collégiale de Romont a été bâtie sur les ruines d’une première église consacrée au 13ème siècle en février 1296, elle est détruite après un incendie comme une bonne partie de la ville de Romont en 1434, le nouveau bâtiment plus grand est construit peu de temps après durant le 15ème siècle en molasse dans un style gothique flamboyant. L’église est dédiée à Notre-Dame de l’Assomption. La reconstruction du monument sera achevée en 1456.
Beaucoup de monument de la ville et de la région sont construits en molasse car c’est une roche très abondante dans le sous-sol de la région, cette pierre et encore utilisée aujourd’hui.
La collégiale de Romont est aussi une vitrine de l’histoire du vitrail juste à côté du Vitromusée installé au Château. Venez découvrir en visitant l’église, l’évolution de l’art du vitrail en Suisse du haut Moyen Age jusqu’à l’époque contemporaine.
Avant d’entrer dans la nef on passe devant un portail intérieur où se trouve une splendide fresque peinte en 1639, elle représente la Vierge de la Compassion avec la mort de Jésus Christ, l’apôtre Jean, Marie-Madeleine et des représentations d’anges. Cette magnifique peinture murale unique en Suisse a été restaurée en 1736 et 1890. En 1938 l’artiste Cingria, auteur de vitraux du monument a réalisé un cadre peint pour cette fabuleuse fresque du 17ème siècle.

Die Stiftskirche von Romont wurde auf den Ruinen einer ersten Kirche geweiht, in dem 13. Jahrhundert im Februar 1296, gewidmet wurde sie wird nach einem Brand als ein grosse Teil der Stadt von Romont im Jahre 1434 zerstört.
Das neue größere Gebäude ist wenig gebaut Zeit nach, im 15. Jahrhundert im extravaganten gotischen Stil. Die Kirche ist der Mariä Himmelfahrt gewidmet.
Die Rekonstruktion des Denkmals wird 1456 abgeschlossen sein.
Viele Denkmäler der Stadt und der Region sind in Molasse gebaut, weil es ein sehr reichhaltiger Stein im das boden der Region ist, dieser Stein und noch heute verwendet.

Im Jahr 1938 schuf der Künstler Cingria, Autor der Glasmalerei das Monument, einen gemalten Rahmen für dieses fabelhafte Fresko aus dem 17. The church is dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption. The reconstruction of the monument will be completed in 1456.
