Description Gotta be specific, you know. DC comics has had many characters to go by that name.

Archie Goodwin and Walt Simonson's Manhunter had the most humble of status at DC. Never had it's own title, ran as an 8 page backup in one of Batman's several titles (Detective) for 6 episodes before concluding in a full length Batman teamup story. It ran for 7 chapters between '73 and '74 and yet managed to pull in 6 major awards in that time. It certainly fueled my youthful enthusiasm when I'd first read it. Simonson's art was unlike anyone I'd seen doing superheroes at that time, stylish and brilliantly laid out too and Goodwin's script also seemed more exciting than anything DC or Marvel had going at the time.
So to one of my greatest comic inspirations, a tribute I'd wanted to do for a while... the one I'd sworn was impossible to do in 3D but just to prove I'm an idiot who doesn't know what he's talking about, I did it anyway! So here he is, facing off against an army of his clones once again.

Stonemason's Village Courtyard
Daz Supersuit
M4 Hardcore Boots
Genesis Journeyer Scout Boots
Rievel Hair
Firearm Pack

I can't remember exactly where I found the Mauser pistol... it was a freebie in sketchup format.
Bracers, belts, leg braces, shuriken made in Hexagon.
Shirt sleeves made in Hexagon, converted to dynamic cloth in Poser then exported back to Daz.

I love all the poses! Great work on this, Lance! Nice work on the dynamic cloth too, something I've never tackled in Poser (it scares me, but I've never really given it a whirl, so...)

Thanks Ryan! Well, from the looks of what I've seen, you're probably much better off doing it as you were with MD2 (I believe).

I should at least give it a try in Poser. MD is awesome, but I don't really know what I'm doing there either.

Oh, you should have seen the comedy of errors that was me trying to work dynamic cloth in Poser!

haha I can imagine. I do the same thing in Marvelous Designer. Sometimes I actually make myself laugh out loud at the atrocities I create and the errors when I go to drape them. Good times!

Thanks Björn! I was happy with how this played out but the part I was happiest about was finally starting to build clothes in Hexagon... and that is an area where you have been a great inspiration. Thank you once again, my friend.

Look at all the action!   Well done Lance!   I think you indeed make the what seemed impossible, possible!   Good for you!    So many great poses and expressions!

Thanks Vee! That is a very kind thing to say although I do think a little clarification may be needed... I only meant impossible for ME. It has been my great fortune to meet such a talented group of old AZ friends here at dA (present company very much included!) for whom I feel this would be easily possible and it is theirs (and your!)work that inspires me toward improvement.

Yeah, this was good stuff. Never figured out what those things on his boots are meant to be. For those who haven't read the series, the guys in blue are him, too. Paul Kirk was one of the first characters in comics to be cloned. Also, ninjas, before they became supercool. A ground breaking series. Now, I gotta go dig out my reprint copy and read it, again!

Thanks, Joe! Yeah, that always has been the question with those boots, hasn't it? I don't know but in an odd way, they remind me of can openers and Manhunter did often tend to open large cans of whupass. Glad I could bring you a reminder of this amazing series.

I remember this Manhunter and he was my favorite. And if I remember rightly a few years back they did dedicate either a mini series to him or a one comic deal. Thanks so much for bring him back to life and giving life again to the older characters. The art is great and I love the addition of the blue manhunters. They sorta remind me of one of the other Manhunter incarnates, Dan Richards. just because of the blue you used. Again really cool!

You know me to well! Yeah, just having fun!  Thanks Delia! I felt like I picked up a few new modeling tricks here... as far as the posing... well, I was hoping I could fake folks out a little here since 5 of the 7 clones have nearly identical poses (all have different head turns and some a few other minor tweaks) but I liked the idea of them being unconsciously in sync but was hoping not to be too overly obvious or boring in repeating the same pose so often.

Well, I'm just getting started in this clothing thing (since most of those supers I do wear similar skintight skivvies ) but it is quite fun. The outfits you've been making looks amazing! Are you still using Marvelous Designer? It looks really cool from what I've seen on their site.

Thanks. Yeah, it definitely adds a distinctive flavor to yours. I'm really enjoying learning how to build them in hexagon but I admit the ease and power of MD2 appears amazing! Who knows... if I get serious about this clothes thing, I may have to give it a try.

I'm afraid I'll be hooked! I'm sure I will at some point but I can't justify the expense of renting it right now. Presently I'm working at improving my Poser cloth and Hexagon skills so I can maximize what I can do when I do burn thru that free trial!

OMG, you actually know what I'm talking about! Hell, if I'd know someone knew not just the character but the actual story I was referencing, I probably would've thrown little Nico in there somewhere too.

SabrinaPandora In reply to leroysquab [2013-10-11 16:14:39 +0000 UTC]

I do indeed. I own the graphic novel that collects all of the stories around here somewhere, which I got autographed by Walt back in the eighties. I learned so much from visual storytelling from that series it was amazing. The Council were amazing, you knew Ray Milland was the model for Dr. Mykros and Jill St. John was totally the model for St. Clair... so very much great stuff in that nice finite run. That is comics storytelling I aspire to someday.

SWEET! Oh, I hear ya, Sabrina... this is high level storytelling at it's finest! Way cool that you've got Walt's dino-signature too! Oh yeah, dead on about those  Ray Milland and Jill St. John references too!!

Cool scene bud. I know of the character, but never read any comics with him. Are the blue costumed clones actually from the comics or is that just something hou came up w/ on your own?

Fun!  Reminds me a bit of a sequence John Byrne did for Iron Fist.  Guns gets a little lost - dark on dark.  Throwing star IS lost.  Sorry.  Enjoying the figures and costumes.  RICK

Thanks Rick! Appreciate the honest review. Damn yr old monitor! It actually shows up fine on my newer monitor but when I tested it thru a DVD player on my TV, I see exactly what you're saying. I moved the star to a more visible location and tried to add a bit more brightness and contrast to the mix.

Gotcha.  Just be aware that detail that looks great on one machine might not on another.  To get around this, always think in terms of silhouettes.  Visually block your details out into shapes.  Looks great!  Keep up the good work.  RICK
