I've actually beat the game with the level 2 master sword (cause I couldn't get to the last ore until now) and with the blue tunic (same as with the sword)

I think the tights are actually supposed to be animation-friendly pants. As in, if they're tight to his legs then it's easier to animate. Also Fierce Deity had black leggings.

Man... Link Between Worlds has the most difference from sidequests. at the beginning, you can only equip on item and you have the normal master sword and green tunic. at the end, your spin attack covers half the screen, Pegasus boots are happening for extra speed, your items are OP as all FUCK, you take a quater normal damage, the lantern does the same damage as the upgraded master sword, said upgraded master sword is golden and does QUADRUPLE normal damage. and long story short, you're un-fucking killable!!!

Well clothing would have to be some what comfortable for traveling around and fighting monsters. Probably explains why he wears a tunic and sometimes chain mail instead of a full suit of armour or something.
That might also explain why the twilight princess magic armour encumbers you when it is not being magically powered up by rupees.
