I would love to play SWTOR but my computer is a 5 year old relic. I got in on the beta but my pc couldn't pass the processor test.

IF they ever let me PLAY again, I'll have to look you up. I've got a Marauder named Krayz on that server.

I've had one problem after another with the game. First they decided that you could early play using your EA purchase code as a game code, then disabled that. Then they changed their password rules. Now it's the subscription thing. My credit card expired on the 1st and they made it really hard to figure out how to change your CC info. And now that I DO have the new expiration date logged, it still refuses to let me order my subscription. Even when I tried through PayPal. I am frustrated to NO END.

But I'm really loving the game.

Prepaid cards are popping up in like GameStop and Walmart now. I just do the Pay for a Year, then I don't fret, also having the security key helps.

That's the only option I haven't tried yet. I just updated my PayPal info so it had an updated card as well, but even that didn't work. And they don't seem the least bit interested in helping me resolve THIS issue - I've waited nearly 24 hours for a response to my first message. IF they aren't going to accept credit cards or paypal then why even bother to offer the option? I'll probably look into it tomorrow if I don't hear from them. I just really hate making payments through third parties. I don't trust them to not find an excuse to keep my money and not provide the service. It also means that I've got to go through one extra hoop to close my account if I ever decide to quit playing. That's been one of the main reason's I've never played an MMO before - is that I'm afraid of paying for a subscription for a game I'm not playing for the rest of my life because they refuse to stop billing me. Thanks for the suggestion though, it helps to know that others ARE using the method I'm nervous about. *sighs*

I've had zero problem with their payment system. I use my paypal card to pay for it and everything.

My "credit card" / debit card expired on the first and they made it almost impossible to figure out how to update it on the SWTOR site. It took seconds to figure out how to do it at PayPal. I had to monkey around until I found a back-door route basically that let me update the card at SWTOR. But even with the card updated at both sites they still keep giving me the "problem with the transaction - please try again later" message. I really don't want to be paying PayPal to pay GameStop to pay SWTOR, right? But they don't seem to be offering me any other choices.

Um, you can directly link your PayPal account to your TOR account in the payment options so the money is taken from it every month/three months/year. Or... well, I just changed my credit card twice just for shits and giggles. Maybe it's a player base IQ test that you're flunking? O_o

I've TRIED that five times along with using my debit card: Purchase Error

An error has occurred while trying to process your request. Please, try again later.

That's the message I get every time, and on BOTH of my computers.

It's not like this is the only online place I make purchases with PayPal or my debit card. I've got a long purchase history with DAZ3D.com. Renderosity.com, Renderotica.com, RuntimeDNA.com and several other venders. I've NEVER had a problem with any of the other ones. Which suggests that the problem is NOT on my end.

And yet I know of literally fifty people through my sister (who works at a GameStop) who have successfully signed up. Therefore, we're looking at a 52:1 ratio of success to failure... which points at the problem being you, yeah?

WickedPrince In reply to JoeHundredaire [2012-01-24 20:08:24 +0000 UTC]

Not really. I am following their process which is basically fool-proof, it's reaching the terminal phase of accepting my subscription payment and then failing. I've even used the card to make another purchase through EA today to verify that the card works and it does. The only place I'm having this problem - continuously - is at SWTOR. Which tells me that the problem almost certainly is on their end, irregardless of others success. The only thing I can conceive is that they are still refusing to accept my Debit Card since the DC is also used for my PayPal. Just because others failed to flag the same issue I did doesn't mean that the issue doesn't exist. Either you don't have a lot of background with computers, or you've forgotten that this is true. Please don't troll me.

Yes, because everyone who can manage things and thinks you're stupid for not being able to do something simple MUST be inexperienced and not be able to understand the complexity of your problems. I've been using Windows since back when you had to fire up 3.1 from DOS or configure autoexec.bat to do it for you, and added the Mac OS to my mix since 10.1 came out. Again, I know far more people who can make it work (everyone BUT you) than those who can't (you and only you). Ergo, from where I'm sitting? It looks like you're the one with an issue. But hey. Sit here yelling at me s'more. I've got my MacBookPro sitting next to the screen so I can read while I play TOR. I'll get back to you eventually.

I called them earlier tonight. THEY admitted that the problem was on their end, AND gave me a free day of play AND told me to try again tomorrow and if it doesn't work then, to call and they'll give me another free day. Are you done making a fool of yourself yet? I've been working with computers since before there was a Windows OS. My first home computer was a Commodore 64 that I still have, and still worked up until the day I upgraded to my first Windows machine. I really tried to be nice. But you insisted on being a troll.

Trollolololol.

My experience is that people who go around belittling others, especially those they know nothing about, usually have a severe inferiority complex. They belittle others because it makes them feel superior to somebody rather than inferior to everybody. I would you well on your recovery, but "frankly Scarlett, I don't give a damn."

WickedPrince In reply to WickedPrince [2012-01-24 10:26:43 +0000 UTC]

Correction. I've tried ELEVEN times (I just went back and counted my purchase history list) to place a payment order using both my debit card and PayPal. I even DELETED and reset my debit card this last time to see if that would fix it. Now, there might still be something I am doing wrong, but I can't see it. The process is seemingly very easy so I can't imagine what I could be doing wrong. This is the third time I've had a problem since my purchase. And both of the previous times the problem was created by them, and I had to figure out the resolution entirely on my own because their help desk is decidedly unhelpful.

Any chance you'll be doing a Sith Inquisitor as well, perhaps?

Despite everything with EA and what not... if I had the money, I'd be playing swtor. Dunno if I'd go Empire over the Republic Trooper, but this pic is a wonderful incentive to do so. Well, that and I wouldn't be flying a ship with the class name Thunderclap.

lexikimble In reply to Phht [2011-12-19 20:27:52 +0000 UTC]

Never quite understood the anti-EA sentiment, especially since they threw a shit ton of money at Bioware to get Old Republic made.

Phht In reply to lexikimble [2011-12-20 13:52:13 +0000 UTC]

I think EA's wiki article section on criticism probably covers a good chunk of the anti-EA sentiment. Plus the entire mess with getting DLC for EA games on PC, chances it won't work properly with Steam versions of the game (which I'm almost certain led to the DLC policy change that got DA2 and Crysis 2 yanked from Steam), and randomly idiotic/non-replying tech support. Oh, and Origin.

If it weren't for a chance to beta test swtor for two weekends, I would've completely given it a miss. And Mass Effect 3 will be a wait-and-see maybe retail purchase instead of online pre-order like ME2 was.

lexikimble In reply to Phht [2011-12-20 17:52:17 +0000 UTC]

really, how close-minded.

Since the PS3 ME2 is the engine for ME3, I'm going to say there's not going to be any changes, outside of the fully optional Story Mode, and Shooter Mode.

Secondly, Valve pulled a dick move with "Oh... you can't offer DLC here AND in your in game!!". I love hoe Valve (and especially Gabe) can pull dick moves and no one cares, EAfucks up and nerds get their panties in a twist.

Phht In reply to lexikimble [2011-12-20 23:43:53 +0000 UTC]

With me, Valve as just days short of 6 years of goodwill built up with Steam (longer if I count back to Half-Life). EA doesn't even have a fraction of that goodwill.

AFAIK (given that no one reveals actual policy terms), the policy is more "if you offer DLC in game or elsewhere, you have to offer it on Steam too." And the reason is probably due to issues with DLC bought elsewhere some times not working properly (or at all) with steam versions of a game.

I had that issue with one of the ME2 DLC (fuck that process to hell TWICE, and then fuck it more) and had to uninstall the game, re-download and install it, then re-install something like a dozen or more different DLC because each fucking one was a separate manual install. Might've had to re-download that particular DLC install exe again at some point too. Luckily, the damn DLC worked properly after that. After dealing with the ME2 DLC purchase and install process, I have no issue with Valve having a policy forcing new DLC to be made available for purchase on Steam (and compatible with Steam versions) if a new game's being sold on Steam.

Hehe my beta Impage ( my nickname for imperial agent) was a Chiss as well

Love the accent on both genders and the class is really fun.

Played a Pureblood Sith Warrior for the most part tho and overall I will enjoy the game thoroughly

I love the IA voice, it's Jo Wyatt, who voiced femHawke in Dragon Age 2.

My Force user is an Inquisitor (also Pureblood), I have far too much fun playing her.
