This is a skull of the giant panda Ailuropoda melanoleuca. It is a much shorter faced bear than any of its living cousins. Although an omnivore, its teeth are broad, low crowned and thickly enameled for its diet of bamboo. For more information check out the Wikipedia entry for the giand panda.

This skull is in the mammalogy collection of the Burke Museum at the University of Washington. It most likely represents a zoo specimen that died of natural causes.
