Description All right everyone this is my first finished piece of art since joining DA so I would love to get some critiques and favs? I guess would be cool too. (off note on favs I thought it was kind of ridicules (being I saw some snapshot that an artist took of himself get 13 favs when it was a snap shot while he was a great digital artist the photo was a snap shot) and don’t care personally if my stuff was to get them but now I realize it’s the only way to get people to look at you work so would appreciate them) okay anyways I’m writing a song to accompany the piece if I decide to use it in an up coming insulation it sounds kinda like apex twin and the faint together but not as good as either of them. my artist description is below, beware my descriptions will be very abstract don’t try to think about them or critique them.

champaign and caviar! lost love gears reunite. moon under yellow, turn blue. forgive! thoughts, abandon hand 1973 threat, de-nasalized flowers bloom. autumn thoughts

That's actually really interesting. I like the eclectic colouring, and forms. Very nice work!

really cool....i thought for sure it was a watercolor at first....would look cool in a tv like you said but you would have to crop a lot of it out to get it to fit...

looks futuristic, psychedelic and avangarde and pop-art-esque at the same time. you may try to make another version of it, a little more cleaner one though.

you know, those pistons and all that abstract stuff looks like a 3d wallpaper. if you know how to use programs like bryce/3d studio max etc... you can get a brand new deviation out of this one.

Well this is certainly abstract and very interesting at that. I love how it looks like you've inked onto cartridge paper but then the shapes sink down and some rise up to make it more 3D. What software did you use? Looks PSPish.
I kinda see a person riding a bicycle, with the gears representing the way that life turns.
I think the image is great, though perhaps add light wash-style colouring in the white canvas areas at the top, almost so that it looks like it has a background. But leaving it as it is would still be a great piece

I normally never really look at abstract artwork that much because it isn't really my taste but I have to say that the more I look at this one the more I 'm starting to like it.

I like how the many very different colors flow and work together .. except for the dark and bright blue parts in the middle right maybe. Those kinda bother me but I 'm not entirily sure why, maybe because if it wasn't for them I almost could have sworn this was an actual painting instead of a digital one.

I have read that people say the piece is random and has too much different stuff on it all mixed through eachother .. but that was exactly what caught my attention first. I tried to look for the individual parts and it is exactly that 'game' what interests me the most about this piece.

P.S.: I do think it obviously isn't random at all .. proven by the many (if not all) parts belonging to a bike.

thanks for the critique I’ll take a look at those dark and bright blue parts and maybe fade them into the surrounding a bit.

yeah i like this, looking at your gallery i see it's a departure from the norm and i think it benefits from it - you should try more stuff like this

Liberation09 In reply to LazyGunn [2004-10-23 17:51:45 +0000 UTC]

well actually my norm is painting and photography is my major but I’m away from all my photo equipment at the moment and haven’t really bothered to paint because shipping it back to the US would be a hassle so I have been spending this time learning vector art and flash although I still need to download illustrator and stop using flash to draw but thanks.

LazyGunn In reply to Liberation09 [2004-10-23 17:58:09 +0000 UTC]

ahh i see, flash is ok but it's more an animation tool than a well developed vector program for stills - definately get illustrator i think you'll go far with it

I like the picture, but it sounds to me like someone is trying to get popular, i.e. getting more fave's. like is said, greast pic, too much noise though, but sorry to say, it's not worthy of my fave's.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Liberation09 In reply to SoltisViolin [2004-10-10 06:48:00 +0000 UTC]

not trying is haha j/k. it doesn't really matter to me actually about being popular on DA i would rather be a known artist in chicago then on DA of course it makes me happy when people like my work but i actually prefer for people to give me criticism then fave's when it comes to work like this, only paintings would i prefer people to really think before they say something. So since this isn’t a fave for you what do you find unappealing about it. also what gave you the impression of me trying to be popular?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SoltisViolin In reply to Liberation09 [2004-10-10 06:55:34 +0000 UTC]

but the over use of you asking for faves,, but no worries. about the picutre though. what I disagreed about was(which could be good( is the was it is over used. Actually if you think about it,,, I only like the colors, and not the shapes, there is too much motion in it for my likings, but people are people. good job and keep up the good work.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Liberation09 In reply to SoltisViolin [2004-10-10 07:05:02 +0000 UTC]

i often ask for fave's because when people are like well its not that good it gives me a chance to ask them y and hopefully see something i didn't before. for instance you comment of not liking the shapes it makes me think about my shapes again in this case though the mix of organic in a mechanical picture is exactly what i was going for.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SoltisViolin In reply to Liberation09 [2004-10-10 07:06:29 +0000 UTC]

well in that case good job.

I'm sorry if I can't fully critique you, because I have never viewed airbrushing before. I like the use of vivid colors, but the picture seems to have no definate subjects. I'm not trying to be mean, or anything, but if feels like a blur of random colors and shapes.

Liberation09 In reply to Lilly-Maiden [2004-09-28 10:24:10 +0000 UTC]

no thats okay its meant to be very abstract if you look very hard you can start to pull subjects out

Ghost-Insignus [2004-09-27 21:57:55 +0000 UTC]

Interesting, I have never seen something like this.

I'm not really a visual artist so I can't really comment on the technique and all, or methods or art elements or such.

I do however, know that it forms a person, with the very top two turquiose gems being the eyes, the middle circle of gems being the pelvis, the two triangular prisms shooting out with a 30-ish degree angle being the torso and shoulders. The big pipe things on the bottom are obviously legs?

I don't know if that was intentional or not, but nice job nonetheless!

Liberation09 In reply to Ghost-Insignus [2004-09-27 22:45:48 +0000 UTC]

that wasn't intentional but great that you where able to see something in it

ok....modern art....i dunno. no idea where to begin critiquing since i have no idea of modern art. all i know is that it's very complex...which i suppose must be good.... (ah sorry, useless post there)

Trizany-psycho [2004-09-27 21:20:06 +0000 UTC]

woah. what is this? abstract as it may be, the actual overall picture is (in my opinion) much too busy and cluttered to convey any sort of abstract thoughts or emotions. Also, (this is a photograph, yes?) you've used an INSANE combination of filters, which just really makes everything one big blue, and you can't truely see the complexities which I'm sure that this work originally held. and I know your comment said NOT to ask about your "artist description" but... what is that? does it describe what you think is in the picture?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Liberation09 In reply to Trizany-psycho [2004-09-27 21:31:18 +0000 UTC]

Actually very little of it is a photograph the (chain gear and lights) the rest was drawn the original work or photos where just some snap shot references of my bike so those where not impressive at all. Yeah basically i think I’m getting two opinions on this one saying it’s to cluttered others liking it. But thank you for your opinion I really do enjoy both the good and bad comments

sevenofeleven [2004-09-27 21:18:35 +0000 UTC]

Looks good, like the colors here.

The struts or columns and the chain on the left side of the picture lead the viewer's eyes out of the picture.

You might want to have some way of keeping the user's eye in the picture.
Eyeleading is hard for me to do subtley, can do it the obvious way. So I may not be the best source on how to do eyeleading effectively.

i started by using some snap shots of my bike filtered them then compossed them on the page then just start laying colors and stuff in and cloning lots of parts and re distorting them as for time hours wise i don't know since i watch moives and do other stuff while i work but took like week and a half time.
