I suspect they'd be an important part of the diet of many pokemon-species, like Pidgeotto.

Well, if you look at the pokedex-entries of Pidgeotto, for example:

Haha, this is definitely an interesting subject matter. As for the coloring practice, I would say try to expariment with some different brushes or textured brushes -- Butterfree's wing looks awesome, but the shadow on the front of spinarak's face looks more iffy.

I should definetely familiarize myself with the different tools.

The basic art-tools of paint shop pro; pastels chalk etc.

And randomly clicking on effects and seeing what happens.

It's not enough like a spider, so I prefer real ones I keep as a pet. When I play pokemon I rather have dragons and other creatures I can't have otherwise.

I trained one when I first played Gold, but not since.

well i usually have a dragon on my team as well i like to keep the order (starter, water, bug, dragon, flying and one other). the bug is very helpful vs dark and grass. but yeah i now what you mean.

I often keep bugs in the beginning. In every game you have the bug-forest and the fast-evolving ones for the start.

yes thats true. idk bug is one of my favorite types even though they are all hit or miss when you use them. if you get them the right moveset the can be tanks. especially syther, you teach it arial ace and it gets a bonus if it has the ability technician also a STAB bonus, so it becomes a crazy powerful move that never misses

And don't forget Heracross or Yanmega. Other than those, bug-types are rather weak, though.

yeah but ariados and venomoth and shedinja all have good aspects

None of those fit in the top tier, though.

I've tried making Shedinja work, but it just has way too many weaknesses. Unless you have a very good luck, in which case the opponent can't touch you, and even then it's rather weak.

Ninjask can be used for baton passing though, popular for that.

I might return to this subject of drawing realistic pokemon. Left it kinda half-way in this pic.
