Description FULL VIEW PLEASE!

EDIT: I changed the file. Added borders in the way I would if I were to hang it on my wall. It was made to be in separate frames or with a passe-partout around them all, so sticking them together didn't work for me. I'm not sure if the grey border works best, if you have another idea please do share it with me!

EDIT 2: Oh. my. goodness. My first DD! I've just gotten back from my two week holiday to find this surprise sitting in my message box! I'm truely honoured! Thanks Anoya and jane-beata for suggesting and featuring! And thanks for all the faves and comments and watches, I'll reply to all comments soon!

---

I proudly present; the drawing that has taken me three years to finish. Woozah! The drawing exists of three A4 papers. I tried merging them in photoshop, and after a couple of hours of battling this came out... Not really happy with it, but I don't think I can make it any better now. I might try again sometime soon, but I kind of want to go to bed now lol.

I finished the portrait part in the summer of 2011 and had the other parts sketched out. In March I finished the second one, today I finished the last one. I am very happy I can finally remove this from my WIP list, haha! Not sure where the idea started, it's simply been too long since I came up with it. Might have had something to do with the name of the reference photo (thanks!). The title is from the song 'O' by Coldplay. Yes I am a sucker for piano ballads.

I'm not sure what else to write, apart from the fact I hope you'll like her!

Special thanks to pretty-much-insanity Sorry it took so long

Started: Summer of 2011
Finished: 24-05-2014
Total time: Ha ha ha. No clue.
Materials: 3x A4 paper, regular wooden pencils (something in the range of 8B-3H), mechanical pencil, erasers, tissues, tortillion, coloured pencils.
References: Cause I am a free bird  by pretty-much-insanityA Safe Landing  by thrumyeye Merged with another one of her photo's for the wings, but I can't seem to find it anymore. None of these photo's are stock! For the branches I used a real branche as a reference (can greatly recommend that!).

Digital representation: These are scans of the drawings, altered slightly in photoshop to match the origional and to put them together (within the limits of my very limited photoshop knowledge *sigh* ).
This drawing belongs to Liennepien . Don't use it without my explicit written permission, or I will send a flock of kingfishers to get you.

Very interesting piece.  Despite her lack of color, I found myself drawn to the girl first her expression is so striking.  Normally my eye (as I imagine most eyes do) would focus on the colored component of the composition first.  Though the bird itself is no less visually impacting.  Congratulations on this being a daily deviation!

Thanks for the elaborate comment! I like how you described it, because in a first try of the girl I tried colouring her iris and giving her some eyeshadow, but I felt it didn't work, haha. I had troubles blending it nicely with her grey skin. Thanks again!

Beautiful, detailed and also slightly disconcerting in a way I can't really explain.

There's one thing that doesn't seem right to me - the kingfisher's wings, or more precisely the outer feathers. They seem too short.

All in all, great job.

Thanks a lot! I see what you mean with the wings, especially the one in front. In the picture I used the wings seemed to have short tips like this, but it might very well be too short since this kingfisher was 'comprised' of two different images (one for the body, one for the wings). Maybe there were some perspective tricks at play, haha! Thanks for the feedback!

beautiful beautiful beautiful. I think the borders work as is -- they draw attention to the drawing itself, as a whole. I'm in awe of your mastery of your materials and the theme of the drawing itself.

Thanks a lot! I'm starting to like the borders more as well. I don't usually have darker borders around my drawings, I guess I had to get used to it, lol. Thanks for the feedback!

A great work.

As you said I am uncertain if simple grey borders help. It would be best if you try to add volume to the borders to make it feel like if this was trully hanged on a wall, that would add a very intersting feeling of depth to the border, which is always very appealing to the eye.
Just add some degrade from light grey to dark grey, and it should do the trick.
Benyond that little detail, an awesome work, well deserved DD.

Thanks a lot! I might try that, it does sound interesting. I don't know if I can still update the image though without the DD thing going away? I'll need to find that out first, haha!

I dont know if you could or you would loose the DD status... You got me on that. Go and ask the help-desk. You can ask anything you want there.
If you dont know about the help-desk and need a hand, just tell me.

Anyway, again, awesome work and a totally deserved DD.

This deviation reminds me of The Transformation Challenge ; the drawing has that triptych layout and is similar to a transformation, not to mention how gorgeous it is standalone.

Thanks a lot! I did try to make it look so that the first and last images could have been separate drawings, although it'd still be a whole with the middle in it. Glad you noticed it!
