Description Answering: [link]

Anna hung on to Nova's neck the ground flew by under them. Novosibirsk was slowly closing the distance between Kaldrosa and him, as the mare stopped chasing as fast as she could and seemed to pay more attention to her sourroundings, including the terrain that was going more difficult. Behind her, she heard another horse running, but she couldn't decide to look back. She was just hoping that it wasn't a totally valuable horse that would step into a hole breaking its leg, as an aftermath of her the dumb unloading accident. Well compared to the thought that was forming inside her head now... it was not thaaat dumb.
Anna saw that Kaldrosa had gotten rid of her halter (god knew how... )and there seemed to be no way to stop her. They were running down the castle road, turning left towards the event ground on the area where the dry lake was. Under Kaldrosas hooves the terrain changed from low grass and bushes to sand and some sort of sand loving herbs. They were still going fast and while Kally seemed not really exhausted, Novosibirsk gave pretty obvious signs of discomfort by tossing his head or kicking as result to her classical riding signals, which he seemed not to understand as well as Anna expected. As the show jumping arena appeared on their right, she decided... to pull a stunt. Remembering her early vaulting years (on a veteran old warmblood mare with a canter like grass flowing in the breeze... of course no comparison to pissed OT stallion on insolid ground), she stood halfway up on Novas back, but she knew she couldn't wait long, before the next protest of Nova. Letting the reigns go, Nova shot forward and Anna aimed at the mares back... and jumped. She fell right across the mares back, arms around Kaldrosas neck, with the legs hanging down on the left flanks and the body curled together to keep the legs away from the mares legs. Kaldrosa made no sign to stop, but Anna could see Novosibirsk calm and happily fall into trot, then walk with his nostrils on the ground, searching for some fresh grass. While Anna, well... she was hanging on.

Would it be okay to use these as tokens to play in Roll20? It's a tabletop program and the horse tokens there are crappy, so most of the time we upload ours xD

Wonderful! I love the thought put into this, the action, and of course the perspective. It's a really nice piece altogether, and augments the story excellently.

life-d-sign In reply to warriorsroxs888 [2011-09-17 08:42:38 +0000 UTC]

actually she isn't but under stress she somehow seems to forget the most basic things. She is good when she is calm and collected, but in a situation like this someone should really stop her from doing such dangerous things I guess at the end of the day she will think "how stupid am I"

This is so cool! Just like a movie screenshot. The angle shows the action perfectly, and you still gave everyone such perfect anatomy. I love how the perspective on the horses' heads turned out, and on Anna's bent legs. Do you do this all from your head, or do you find references?

life-d-sign In reply to CopperdragonArt [2011-09-16 23:09:29 +0000 UTC]

there was a movie scene in seabiscuit that showed this angle to some degree, The person was a "happy accident" it just worked out. I think much of that is also that it is believable, but we don't see these scene every day, so it is not apparent at once what if something might be wrong. The angle is actually MUCH easier than it looks like

CopperdragonArt In reply to life-d-sign [2011-09-17 11:33:26 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I think I might remember that scene now. It shows that this angle is perfect for a horse movie.
That is a good point about errors being hard to spot because this angle in unfamiliar, but you did a great job of making it believable. Believable is often more important with art than being 100% correct; if I'm using a horse ref photo of a horse in a strange/twisted pose, I often have to change the pose in my drawing to make it appear more realistic.

SkyArrow [2011-09-16 22:57:36 +0000 UTC]

This is such a cool picture! I imagine it would be really hard to draw from this angle, but you did it perfectly! I can tell exactly what pose Anna is in, even though it is from above. I love the motion blurred background too.
