Description it's big. very big. but i really want you to full view this one please.

this and "kwinana freeway is a serpent" [link] are my first attempts at photo stitching.

i really should have read a book on how to do this, but i think i was successful.

both submissions are made from 3 photos. don't go looking for the joins - i am crap at photoshop and know there are going to be errors.

this is for my friends who want to see the beautiful city i live in at night.

it was damn cold! the wind on top of kings park last night was freezing - and i was in my work uniform which wasn't really quite up to the challenge of keeping me warm.

the cold at least kept my mind off the fact that i was walking around kings park in the dark by myself.

but i managed to get what i came for.

i hope you like them

and yes please full view them.

enjoy.

Wonderful shot. You live in a beautiful place.

The joins are good and with practice they get harder and harder to find. Night shots help with making them hard to find. Daylight shots are a pain to merge.

thanks for the great comments - yes the night was a blessing to hide the joins - and i am too scared to attempt a stitch with a daylight pano - thank you again

Great shot, had to look since brought it up, i dont see any joins. By the way, you can get programs that will do that sort of thing for you if you find some of them getting difficult or complex. Really helps when you wanna stitch like 6 or 7 shots together.

Great work. I've spent a lot of time doing pano's and this has worked quite well. i can unfortunately see the joins. im not sure how you've taken these images so my only advice for smoother joins is to make sure you have about 50% overlap between each image. Ignore me if you're already doing this!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lightandshadow In reply to c-lue [2006-07-24 13:48:49 +0000 UTC]

thanks for the advice - i want to do more of these so the more advice the better - i did have alot of overlap on these but i found that the edges of each frame had a dark edge and it was hard to match the tonings - maybe i will trim the edges off next time.

the biggest hassle was matching the streamlines from the car headlights. is that where you saw the stictch or the tonings?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

c-lue In reply to lightandshadow [2006-07-26 12:48:13 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, specifically on the right side of the image. there is a definite change in angulation of the headlight steams. The tonings work well, they are not as noticable.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lightandshadow In reply to c-lue [2006-07-27 06:39:41 +0000 UTC]

yes that was an unfortunate complication i had with the images - but i guess it is hard to get such a sweeping view without such angulation issues - this is an easy 90o angle. but anyway good practice for the next one

c-lue In reply to lightandshadow [2006-08-08 13:07:55 +0000 UTC]

i agree, its hard especially when the objects are close to where your are.

lightandshadow In reply to c-lue [2006-08-10 00:22:53 +0000 UTC]

yeah i could imagine! it would almost look fisheye!

hey i finally have got a competition organised! check it out in my journal!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

c-lue In reply to lightandshadow [2006-08-10 01:22:11 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it would and im not a big fan of fisheye images. Interesting effect but if you don't know how to use the lens properly then any image will look distorted.
I've seen your journal and have a couple of ideas already so i just have to find my subjects. I think my entry will be a little off centre/out of the norm but for those in the know it will make sense. It will be fun.

looking forward to it. the 3 judges all have varying style and tastes so any entry has a good chance of winning

Great shot. Some really warm colors in here, which are a great contrast against the night sky. Also, I've been looking for a good wallpaper that would stretch across my two 19' lcds, and this is perfect!

2!!! don't make me jealous! i am still using some 17" dinosaur straight from the jurassic at home.

it takes up so much of my desktop - i am looking forward to the day i can set aside enough money for a flat panel.
