Thank you for the kind comment.. I started with globs of color (shapes) and a 25-29 color palette and just kept refining as I went and added color only when I thought it was absolutely neccessary it ended up being 32 color when I added reds for Terra. I also got a good amount of feedback from the folks at pixel joint.

I use Photoshop.. and sometimes I use Graphics Gale (the free version).

Oh! well, I don't have anything more than redone 40x40 px portraits intended for the game. But I put them into the game and it was cool to see them function.

This has a strange ethereal golden tone that at the same time includes a polluted/horror element with the contrast of the olive against the cyan, which makes the color scheme here perfect for this part of the story. This piece looks almost as though it was woven in 3D, too.
