I know the title's pretty rediculous but I made this for a little spriting contest at FFH. The contest is called "Ivalicians Abroad" So I decided to take Ramza to the World Tree from Faxanadu.Went with NES restrictions, using 8x8 tiles for everything with only 4 colours assigned to each tile at a time counting trans... The only part where I could have fudged is the part on the Ramza sprite, where the sword overlaps his torso/body. BUT, because the sword would actually a be separate sprite, I'm still within NES restrictions. That's how it worked in the original Faxanadu title. The swords were visibly equiped onto the sprite separately.
1st attempt at using NES restrictions. Oh how I had a blast, limitations can be fun!

Anyone want to join the contest? I'm not in it to win it; I'd really like if some of you badass pixel artists went over there and smoked the lot of us.

Note: The Ramza sprite would only fit NES restrictions fully if layered like the Megaman sprite is.

Faxanadu is one of my all time favorite nes games. I wish they would make a remake of it. very nice work!

I miss days past as well.. poor kids of today have all these flashy graphics but they, for the most part, seem to lack taste.. insipid modern culture is.

True. Today it's mainly about 3D and pseudophotorealistic graphics.
I don't like modern 3D graphics - they seem to have reached the stage where their imperfection as a representation of reality becomes more and more glaring with every improvement.
