what would have happened to Link is Midna never freed him from his chains.....i think the game should have left ya to fume over how the hell you were going to get free, Midna came in to quickly there should have been more time so the player would get a bit "freaked out" it would have created more angst for the moment.
my sister says this is illogical that link would not be so stupid as to hurt himself like this.
but have you ever seen an restrained animal panic?
my brothers stupid husky for instance; we tried one of those "head collars/halti/gentle leaders" on him and he walked the dog around the yard and the dog FREAKED, my bro tried to be firm with the dog and ignore him but when he got back up to the patio the dang dog had blood all over his face and paws cause he clawed at the halti so bad!!!
i think that link would eventually panic, the thought of never being free, not knowing if food or water will ever be provided or if he going to be left to starve and waste away. not knowing where he is or what happened, eventually his new animal instsincts is bound to kick in and send him into an all out panic to free himself.
his claws are shattered from clawing that the peg, his gums and tounge torn from chewing the chain, and his leg rubbed raw right down to the flesh from the shackle rubbing as he pulled to free himself....
but now as he has clamed down his human mind begins to return and he realizes what has happened to his leg....he begins to realize the infection from the new open would ground with dirt and rust will likely kill him, and even if he can free himself from the chain how will he get free of the cell with a wounded (if not chewed off) leg....he begins to realize he's likely gonna die here....
PS foreshortening (like the close up paw) is a bitch to do!!!

I think if there was too much time where the player would freak out, they would just turn off the game and never turn it back on.

*shakes head no* Later on around in the game she admits that she used her hand hair thingy to pull you in, and get captured, though this was not part of her plan but changed it to work, then broke you out to gain your trust more or less.

*by the way the cloaked figure completely removed the chain from link

What MY opinion of how this SHOULD be is that Midna comes as usual. But instead of freeing you she tells you to Howl for her. So she leaves the cell like usual and then you need to stand in front of her, howl a quick tune. (Maybe a Ocarina Of Time song like Bolero Of Fire maybe or maybe something easy to get you started) and once you succeed, she will free you like usual.

This is pretty nicely made, however i doubt anything bad would have happeed if midna hadn't come becauseyour playing as Link... thd kind of suck if you played a game for about thirty minutes tehn just be stuck in a jail forever. Personally I disagree with what should have happened, though yes she came to early. Instead of having her save him I think you should have had to figure a way off the chain and she would get you out of the cell. Personally I thought it made more since that she would get you out of the cell.

This is what i thought of if midna never came: Princess Zelda would come into the dungeons (i dunno what gave mi that idea...) and see link there. She tries to communicate with link and (somehow) keeps link as a pet wolf...if that makes any sense at all...

Yeah, I thought Midna came waaaaay too soon :/ It would've shown you the reality of the situation if they gave you the option to bite the chain and then subtracted a quarter of a heart for ripping the gums or something.
