Companion piece to this picture of Ben and White Knight.Worked all night on this. More coloring practice. I love it, but it's time consuming.
So I finally started watching Ben 10 Alien Force. I'm enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would
After watching the first season... this is my theory. I'm probably way off and the two canons aren't connected at all, but whatever. Fanon is valid until jossed.
Sadly, I have no fanfic idea attached to this. This is a stand-alone piece. C:
But yeah, I think Van Kleiss (from Generator Rex) is a descendant of Kevin Levin (from Ben 10). Don't Van Kleiss' nanite abilities seem a lot like Osmosian powers to you?

Van Kleiss strikes me as more of an alternate version of Kevin 11,000. If he had absorbed nanites and become smarter and more sophisticated maybe.

I have so much love for this AU, I don't care about canon, I want this on a screen! Kevin's expression is perfect - he's pinned down, probably gasping, and still looking badass and plotting. Very, very nice!
And your use of colour palettes, oh dear lord, I love them!

I'm sorry, Tav, but... I finally sat down and watched Alien Force and despite it retconning previous canon, I really love it a lot. It still shines with that Dwayne McDuffie charm.

Are you on Season One? That one is actually solid- my complaint with it is the canon-jossing, not the shenanigans. Wait until you get deeper into the series- while there are some great enemies (Darkstar, Albedio, and Charmcaster has a fun comeback)- there's also episodes about alien poo and the worst handling of the "war is bad" aesop ever.

I just started Season Two. I've seen the alien poo one, it actually gave me a little chuckle. I'm okay with crude humor as long as it doesn't span the entire series. Sad to hear it goes downhill in general, though... but then, a lot of shows do, it seems *coughcoughDANNYPHANTOMcough*
That's one reason I'm glad Generator Rex started off kind of weak... it had a chance to improve and only got better from there

I do think that Alien Force would be okay on its own merits, what makes it feel like a bomb is that it holds the weakest of candles up to its predecessor, which was golden- especially in changing a lot of canon that did not need changing and made more sense the original way. (Like the Forever Knights. I just... what? What is this? Also, Vilgax goes from being badass to a bit of joke- wait for the series finale. Just wait for it, Vilgax's threat becomes hilarious in the worst way.) I like Kevin, but I miss the sociopath from the original because that character was more complex and interesting and also something you DIDN'T see all the time. Most shows aren't going to want to admit that maybe the little kid is beyond redemption and there wasn't bugger all anybody could do about it. "Ben 10" wasn't afraid to admit that sometimes the universe is just nasty. By the same token, "Ben 10" seemed to me really about the power of family solidarity (Ben often seemed loathe to admit it or outright rejected it, but he, Gwen, and Max were really a core trio)- and these same qualities are in "Generator Rex" (with Rex's family being his chosen one of Six and Holiday- Caesar can piss off).
Season One of Ultimate Alien is horrible. That's when it got to the point where it wasn't even fun as a parody and I quit after two episodes into season two.
Speaking of Danny Phantom, one of my birthday presents was Season One on DVD. Don't know if you know, but we finally got a decent release of the show- a Shout Factory production rather than Amazon's print-on-demand service. I haven't started watching the discs, but I am already begging that they release Season Two. Almost all of my favorite episodes are in Season Two!

Yeah, I'm still a little miffed that Kevin went from sociopath to troubled teen, but from what I do understand they do eventually address what a weird change that is - not sure they address it well but at least they try.
I think they still have kids beyond redemption though... Michael Morningstar's first episode seemed like a HUGE rape allegory to me, and he wasn't remorseful at all about the girls he hurt. Or maybe he does get redeemed later, I dunno. xD; Maybe I should watch the whole series first.
And yeah, I've heard that Ultimate Alien is all-around horrible. :C That's too bad... some of the story arcs SOUND interesting but it's all about execution.
I heard about the DVDs, too! It's about time. Season Two was GOLD.

Mike isn't a sufficient substitute for Kevin. He was pushed to become a villain by his fantastic alien biology, but Kevin is the way he is because of his brain chemistry- getting messed up by the Omnitrix didn't make him crazy, he already was, and he'd be a troubled, dangerous kid even without his energy absorption powers. He had real world psychological issues and that made his character more disturbing, hit closer to home.
Watched episode one of DP today and I was really surprised to discover that the show holds up. Honestly, I'd forgotten how funny it was and how good the voice acting is. I think the animation falls into the "love it or hate it" category- you either think it's good because it's unique or it's crappy, but I think it fits the show's quirkiness.

Yeah, that's true. :T I guess it was easier to create the third wheel from a peer of Ben's who already existed instead of trying to shoehorn a new character into it. Could have been handled better, or at least let the "bonding" they did take more than three episodes.
And yeah, I saw "Control Freak" on TV a while back and I was like... wow, this really was that good back in the day. I was honestly surprised. No wonder I liked it so much xD
