RP Guidelines and Limitations

Name: Ka'lel
Nickname: Lel, Ka
Sex/Gender: Male
Species: Smilodon
Subspecies/Breed: Fatalis
Age: Adult
Height: 38"
Weight: 570lbs
Physical Appearance: Large and muscular with soft fur that’s thick around his ruff in a very light mane. His fur grows angled back and regular, with no licks or dips in consistency. His cheek fur is also plush and thick. His head is large and wedge-shaped but much flatter at the top with a broad muzzle. His ears are somewhat smaller than average, giving him a large-headed appearance and looks almost terminally grumpy. His tail was lost in a fight with a human - all that remains is a stubby end. He suffers some difficulty with balance and quick turns as a result - hampering his effectiveness in chasing down prey after a failed pounce.

Personality: Stoic and to the point, Ka'lel doesn’t parse words and very rarely expresses his own opinions unless directly put upon about them. He is steadfastly loyal to the Tukem Clan as he was taken in by them and to whomever is the leader of the clan. Don't take this loyalty lightly however as it goes to whomever is in the lead as a fickle beast - willing to turn on those around him dutifully if ordered to do so by the new leader. Those who are above him in task and rank also gain Ka'lel's adherence to orders and duty - for he will serve those who are greater than he at any an all times unless those orders come into conflict with any made by the leader themselves or a law within the clan. To Ka'lel, there is no differentiation between clan and leader. Ka'lel is not one to challenge another saber - in fact he is submissive to those who show dominant or aggression towards him and will let them be. Not one to stir the pot normally on his own, Ka'lel would battle for his clan selflessly, but is highly indifferent to those outside the clan or member inside the clan attempting to befriend him. When it comes to other sabers, even in the clan, Ka'lel is not one who enjoys engaging with others being asocial himself. If it weren't for humans endangering his way of life, Ka'lel would have been just as happy to live alone. As one who doesn't enjoy the company of others, Ka'lel is happy to be on the outskirts and listening to what goes on around him. The saber can be quite observant of those around him and his surroundings. He is very philosophical though when his opinion is actually demanded and surprises many who think he’s just a meat-brained idiot with how much he actually understands of his predicament, nature and philosophical quandaries. Once Ka'lel has made a decision about something however, it's hard to convince such a pig-headed beast to reverse his mind. Whatever his mind decides upon, Ka'lel will not shift his opinion in another direction even when contrary evidence is shown to prove him worng. He's as loyal to his own opinions and duties as he is to the clan overall. When it comes to his internal compass, Ka'lel wasn't taught right from wrong and has thus grown to be an amoral being. He will kill for no reason but because it is his duty to or because he was ordered to - his obedience to the law outweighing any primal overriding empathy for the one about to be killed. Family: Reyna (mother - missing), No'rek (father - missing)
History: Ka'lel was born to a gentle beast of a mother in a solitary den. Ka'lel was the only cub of the litter - and thus an only son. Reyna gave her son a female name - for she had wanted a daughter and not a son. He had no father in his life - the male who sired him long gone after the deed had been done. Despite his mother being gentle on the inside did not mean she could not be ruthless as a predator to others that are not her son. His mother taught him the essentials of being a predatory creature - that one must hunt and kill to survive, that one must eliminate any competitors on your land and that obedience to her orders or orders of those stronger/higher than you should always be obeyed dutifully. Ka'lel learned these things well from his mother and became a fairly decent hunter. When his mother thought he was old enough to leave the territory, she ordered him to leave with a fierce display of territorial aggression. Ka'lel, however, did not react and did as ordered just as he was taught - he left.

After leaving, Ka'lel wandered for a long time as he attempted to assert his own territory. However, he was a submissive beast when others showed a dominant stance towards him. Ka'lel was not a real fighter unless these challengers were not sabers. Then he fought to kill mercilessly. In the end, he took over another predator's small territory for his own after many failed attempts at gaining territory from other sabers. His pelt was scarred up after this time. His territory was not necessarily safe however. Humans moved into the area and this was the first time he'd ever seen them. At first, he thought they were a type of prey but was immediately proven wrong when his attempt to hunt one turned horribly wrong and it fought back with a pointed stick and stone. He gained more scars on his shoulders, lost most of his tail and gained the memory that humans were more like predators than food. Ka'lel then decided to treat them like predators and wanted to kill them - that is until he learned they lived in packs and witnessed a random saber being hunted by them.

Suddenly humans were not interesting in the least.

Concerned for his safety with humans known to hunt lone sabers, Ka'lel fled his territory in search of a safer life. Then he came across scents of many sabers comingling. Ka'lel was at first unsure - why were so many sabers living together? But then he decided to investigate - approaching their borders in the hopes of a new life. This is the start of his journey within the Tukem Clan.
