Lily, good drawing does not need a background. This portrait of Cindy proves my theory.

Comments about coloring books are not meant to hurt You, I'm sure that was meant to be compliment. I agree, if You entered the coloring book or book for children market, You would have obvious chances to achieve success there.

I've never been good at backgrounds, although I found a way of making decent-looking simple backgrounds in Photoshop; I'll be glad to share my techniques with You. ^^

Your style is what makes you who you are. Sometimes in art there is no 'better' or 'worse.'

As you grow better you can draw realism, I learned to draw landscapes and I could draw the entire room I am in realistically, but it would take 12 hours to make a full scale photo realistic picture.

On the other hand I can draw comics which are not only easier on the eyes they are more entertaining.

So by you drawing these cartoons has a charm of its own and you will attract people with your similar tastes and personalities, and I appreciate all of your art. It is gentle and brings out a youthful side that many adults our age tend to forget.
