Love this! It really communicates that crazy sort of busy excitement that goes with "side-show alley". Great vision

Wonderful colors! Nice depth of view.. or whatever the term is for the focusing

That's the magic of Lensbabies Standart lenses focus on a plane, a Lensbaby on a spot on that plane. Everything else get's blurred out from there. You can control the effect by changing aperture: The lower the number, the smaller the area of focus and the higher the amount of softness around it. I took this photo at f/2.0 which not only makes for awesome effects but also let me take this photo hand-held. Which is pretty much the only option since Lensbabies are fully manual lenses, i.e. you have to keep track of your object to keep it in focus and of the exposure which can get hectic when things move fast

Wow, I just watched the video on their site. Definitely considering one in the future, very cool lens.

Just curious, since this was handheld--if you stabilize with a tripod, does the lensbaby have a good sharpness at the area of focus?

Limaria In reply to stuckeys [2011-03-28 18:34:36 +0000 UTC]

Yes, usually the sharpness of the "double-glass-optics" generation is spot-on. Here it was already dark and everything was in motion so getting it to work was a little more difficult. In daylight conditions or with a tripod it's just as good as any other lens.

nice that's good to know. they're not so expensive either!

Limaria In reply to stuckeys [2011-03-30 17:11:13 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but they've got the accessory part down pretty good. There's the macro kit, the special aperture plates, the "retro look" stuff, etc... It's so addictive

stuckeys In reply to Limaria [2011-03-30 17:17:32 +0000 UTC]

yeah I bet, there's so many changeable parts!

Limaria In reply to stuckeys [2011-03-31 10:13:22 +0000 UTC]

Which also tends to make people give you weird looks when you suddenly seem to take a strange looking lens apart to change bits, reassemble it and get back to taking photos within a minute And then explaining to them that you just wanted to change the aperture
