It's super yummy. If you ever want to try it, my recommendation is always to try one order of Tuna Rolls, or "tekka maki" (if that's how it's written on the menu). It's the best way to get hooked without having to start with something super-bizarre that you'll either love or hate. Make sure to dip it into soya sauce when you eat the first one - because that makes it super yummy. Then if you want, you can try it without the soya sauce, but really it doesn't have much flavour without it. But the flavour that's there is just ... soothing and satisfying, and damn addictive!
Hehe. So yah, anytime you or your family or friends are out to Japanese, or are in a mall food court with a sushi place in it (oddly enough, the mall sushi place here makes better rolls than most restaurants!) just go up and order "one tuna roll".
You'll be hooked right from there!

Hehe, oh yah, not unfamiliar with that feeling either.
Though, there was a time when i felt i'd had too much, and was a little tired of sushi - but the excursion to St. John's - where they had no sushi place until a year or 2 after i moved there, and still only had that one place by the 5th year, the year i left - made me appreciate my hometown even more. You can't turn around in this little town without seeing a sushi restaurant, hehe. Well, almost, but for a town this small and closed-minded it's pretty amazing!

I don't think I could get tired of sushi. I suppose it's possible, though. XD Oh, same here! There are tons, especially in the downtown area. Which works, because I hang out there almost every day.

Why thank you very much. Yes, my dad actually taught me how to roll it, but i looked up how to make the rice online. After years of practice and help from Carolyn, we finally perfected the sushi rice, so it wasn't like bland, weird textured home-made sushi rice anymore - but very close to what you'd get in a restaurant!

If you want to try it, i suggest this - order tuna or salmon rolls, they are the easiest for new-users. Just take a piece, dip it in the soya sauce that comes with it, and eat it. It doesn't taste fishy, it tastes more salty because of the soya sauce. It's a very good texture (mostly just rice, you don't even notice the fish), and very good flavour. Plus, the rolls are the cheapest thing on the menu - at least tuna rolls. Get them at the right place (or at most places) and you'll be hooked.

I'll keep that in mind. However, I can't even be in the house if anyone made tuna salad because the smell makes me want to vomit =/

Hmmm ... then try the salmon, hehe. Even though you don't really taste or smell the fish in sushi.

Well, i'm in BC, now - and in April or May i'll be going down to Wyoming to be with my new girl. If it works out with her i may stay down there for a little bit to go to school, or we'll come back up here or something.

Haha, smoked eel is ok, but i think the bbq sauce sorta ruins the "sushi experience" for me - anything hot or sauced doesn't seem to fit among the cool, satisfying uncooked fish.

A-har-har-har!
Hehe, but that was good, i didn't expect that there. But yah, well, to prepare the rice it takes a few hours (gotta rinse it of the dry pasties about 5-7 times, then let it dry for an hour, then cook it for 20 minutes, then let it sit for 17 minutes - then cut up the fillet of salmon into long strips, and some bigger, flatter strips (to make the nigiri kind that you see in the front), and then when the rice is cool enough that it won't cook the fish, but warm enough that it's still soft and sticky, pad the piece of nori (the dried, flattened seaweed paper), place the salmon strip in the middle of the rice, then (on a sushi roller) roll it up, then cut it into 6-8 pieces, and repeat!

I was going to comment on that glorious plate, then to learn you MADE it??? That squares the awesome quotient by 10. (lol)
I really really enjoy sushi but have not had it in a couple of years. I have no one to go with and I don't feel comfortable going by myself (anxiety of the unknown/new situations and places).

Hehe, aww, shucks, yup, i made it.
Yah, i don't like going alone, either.
And yup, i'm a synaesthete. Not as much as some, but enough to see my letters and numbers and shapes in colour in my mind, also with personalities. Certain music can also bring colours to my mind.

That's really interesting, I know someone else who is a synaesthete...new term learned...and I just learned about it perhaps a year ago.
