Well, he isn't falling apart, but he's incomplete.
In teh game you need to eat gears to upgrade him.
But what if you're not upgrading him? You could be just fixing him.

Oh yeah, I remember the gears part and a friend of mine who has a lot more of Don't Starve hours down than I do that he gets pretty buff with the gear upgrades.
Too bad I can never survive long enough because I'm really bad at picking my fights. Which means I am overly daring when it comes to mobs.
... usually I pick Winterbottom as my starting character solely for the fact she can craft shovels at any time, anywhere.
