Thank you for the explanation, however, in this case the small child is blind in her white eye, due to an accident or an infection and so the words below the photograph speak about this and the medical help that can now be found for the treatment of avoidable blindness in Nepal.
... but it would have been wonderful if she could have seen through all the bad things in the world ...

For poor people in remote villages, in Nepal, having their eyesight restored IS a miracle !

It's nice to know that things are improving and that people recognise such issues in the world. Indeed a heart-warming story and a powerful photograph.

Thank you for your kind words.
Yes, there is much good work progressing, in many areas of need, throughout the world, though it's not easy and there are many challenges. This is such a story of dedication, collaboration and support, with positive results, that I felt it should be shared and I'm glad it has touched your heart.
You may find the two video links on this page, below the article, of interest and inspiration, especially the video about the work of Dr. Sanduk Ruit, the outreach clinics and the effect on people's lives in remote areas of Nepal.

Faith in humanity: Restored.
Every time I start to think the human race has gone to hell, something like this reminds me there are still wonderful and amazing people in this world.

Amazing! As soon as I saw the image I thought of my dad, he's in El Salvador getting a cataract removed from his eye and it makes me think about how there are so many people in the world that can't see because of something that can be removed. Its sad to see a young girl like this and I think about how blessed we are and they can't afford it or they don't have access to a place that can help them.

It's good if this story helps you appreciate what you have,...
Yes, before it was like that for the poor villagers of Nepal, but now, thanks to the wonderful work of Dr.Ruit and his team, with free eye screening and treatment, the poor do not need to be able to afford health care for their eyes,- and this is possible not only because of the medical team's dedication, but because of donations from kind people, internationally.
Please have a look at the link, below the article, on this page to see how Dr. Sanduk Ruit cares for people in remote villages, I think you'll like to see how this work happens here and how miraculous it is for villagers who have been living in darkness.

ugh. depressing, but much needed.
It surprises me sometimes how I take my 1st world life for granted; I complain about much smaller things, and would freak out completely if I began to lose my sight.

It once was very depressing, but now with the TIO outreach clinics many positive things are happening for those with avoidable blindness in Nepal, ... and for those whose sight is restored, this is wonderful ! ( Please look at the video about Dr. Sanduk Ruit's work in remote villages in the links on this page and I think you'll see HOW wonderful this work really is. )
Life is hard in the villages of Nepal, but with clinics and care such as this, things are getting better.

This isn't the first time I've stumbled across something similar to this.
I read the story of an elderly and completely blind Himalayan woman suffering from cataracts who lived at a very high altitude, possibly in Nepal. There was a clinic set up in a village maybe 15 miles from where she lived, and another villager piggy-backed her most of the way there, bare-foot I believe, so that she could have surgery to correct her eyesight. The surgery was a success, and she regained most of her vision. Can't for the life of me remember where I read about it though.
These people are doing absolutely amazing work over there. A very worthy cause.
