Description So, I contemplate Autumn Country quite a bit, but I can never seem to settle for illustrating a situation ( ex. Jade kills something nasty) and wind up illustrating a concept or feeling.

One of the things that struck me within the Faerie storyline is just how dangerous it is. Not all faerie tales have those happy endings, but the world itself (this one, really) is a dangerous place to exist in. The aave are a serious threat to the character's way of life, but the characters themselves have to deal with living with their feet in two worlds.

On the one hand, they have friends in the mundane world. Some of them have families who will be expecting them home when they leave, and any time they accept a mission it could be their last. Every time they leave it threatens to expose the illusion of who they are, and what. (remind anyone of WoD?)

And often I wonder at how the fae are dealing with that. This stock image was perfect; the artist called it "becoming human", referring probably to removing the statuesque paint that covered her humanity. I simply chose to reverse the system, and made humanity that which covers who she really is.

And also, I have no idea what this looks like on a normal moniter. My laptop is ridiculously bright. And there are little details that thoroughly piss me off, but that's pretty typical.

It's really good! How do you mean the painting is yours? You just painted the white stuff on with a tablet?

I know nothing about AC, but this is amazing. I love the one ear, the one eye. It's beautiful.

I've never been able to figure out what it is! A show? A game? A book? A series? Help!

More like an online story...experience. You find out little bits of the story at a time. In installments, like a series. And how you navigate the website might tell you the story a little differently than how others perceive it. It's mysterious that way.

That sounds kinda amazing. Like an online story-game?

With emphasis on the online story. I'm not sure they really see it as a game.

Wow this is simply fantastic, Lindy! I really dig the concept of having to hide true nature beneath a very thin disguise of identity. It really captures the feel of the universe well, especially with the brick wall giving way to a glimpse of the mysterious natural world beyond.

It does rather remind me of WoD as well, that whole idea of the world that exists just beneath our own, though most people are blind to it.

Best of luck in the contest And hope you feel better!

It really would benefit me to pay attention to both accounts at the same time...because I miss comments like these. I'm really glad you like the piece! I don't care for winning contests. I mean, it's lovely and exciting, but if I portrayed anything even close to what I was trying to communicate, I'm happy.

I know the feeling. I'm the same way. Contests, particular the AC ones, are such great springboards for inspiration. It got me writing again after years of hiatus from exercising that part of my brain. I'm happy that it came along when it did!

Best of luck to ya either way

I've been wondering at what to do with the stock for a while, and since it creeped out some of my friends I decided I had to use it. Can't wait to see what you make of it!

Part of me wants to make a purely surreal piece one day...I'm not sure if this one counts or not. *poke* You should still find something to do with the image.

You'll get addicted to the surreal category if you do. Surreal is, for me, one of the funnest categories to create in. I may eventually, but right now, I'm out of creative juice.

Very very badass. I really enjoy the abstract view of the concept. There's a lot of really awesome detail work here.

I'm going to steal your Wacom tablet. My mouse sucks.
