Your paintings are always just so incredible! They so good they inspire me to make me want to paint but then I realize, oh yeah... I can't. I really wish there was more dinosaur and reptile tutorials out there. Like everyone else I'm questioning the legitimacy of it being a "doodle". It makes my doodles want to jump off a cliff. XD

well, I do agree, but I do feel fundamentals and drawing what you want are 2 completely different things, at least for me. I've drawn thousands of simple shapes, studied anatomy a ton and drawn countless gestures, done master studies, still lifes and pretty much anything I was told thats good to do, you name it I probably have studied it. And I will continue to do so. And on the side I did the dragons and dinos I wanted to do. What I found is that I never felt they ever crossed over. I'm even drawing a dragon a day and I'm feeling that I'm actually getting worse looking back! The worst is the directionless feeling I'm constantly getting plus it doesn't help that close to nobody teaches this stuff. I know others have learned this alone but I'm constantly getting the feeling that I'm so slow that I'll probably be 70 by the time I'll be able to draw like the average 20 year old.

Well looking at your dragons, they look great! Don't get down on yourself, you just have your own style.
There are a few tutorials that have helped me with dinosaur anatomy. David Krentz is an amazing dinosaur artist, and he has a tutorial online that you can buy from Gnomon for $60.00.
www.thegnomonworkshop.com/stor…
There is also Creatures of Amalthea, which is buy Terryl Whitlatch (my idol). Not dragon or dinosaur anatomy tutorial per say, but honestly is a gold mine in itself. Plus, it's free!

Let me know what you think of those, I hope they help!

Thank you for the compliments, but the ones I was talking about I don't post or have scans or photos of. Theirs too many and their not good. The problem is I really don't like my style and I'd like to be able to draw them with and without one. I just feel I can draw everything else fine except what I want.
Thank you for the links! I've never seen the Gnomon video before (or any of them) so I'll have to check it out. For how obscure the info is, it seems like a good deal. The ones with Terryl Whitlatch I remember seeing but I was always turned off by it when it kept telling me to "log in" and the site itself confused me. Also I never read anyone talk about it as much as people rave about schoolism or Gnomon. Now I know its free and good I'll have to try it.
Thank you again!

That does really help, I draw as much as I can and I often feel they are never post worthy and I'm now trying to post on a regular basis. So its good to hear others feel that way too. Whats hard for me now is that the drawings I dislike are often what others like the most and vis versa, so its getting hard for me to tell what is good or not.
Reading the posts with Terryl Whitlatch make me realize just how obscure a lot of animal anatomy is especially birds and reptiles. I wonder where so gets her info from?

I am the exact way, I just basically learned that I do what I want and if people like it, cool, and if they don't, that's okay too. I think people really react to artwork that has a lot of soul in it, if that makes any sense. For example, I draw stuff a lot of the time that is technically great, but it has no impact on the viewer and is easily forgettable. I am still trying to figure out the emotional part to my art, it just takes time and a lot of personal discovery.
About Terryl Whitlatch, I know she went to college for zoology and has a huge understanding of animal anatomy just from that. As well, she studies animals all the time and always researches their anatomy from books. Have you ever tried reading the Unfeathered Bird?
www.amazon.com/The-Unfeathered…
That's another great resource to have. It goes into great detail about bird anatomy and has some beautiful illustrations to study. It's one of my favorite books.

Hmmm I think you Carnotaurus and this Diplodocus, appart from having a rhyming name, can become the best of friends since they lost the same things XD
