 i think the bear trap could be better incorporated as his mouth.  maybe make it a steel type if you want to add metal into his design. Other wise it looks very out of place just slapped on his neck.  I feel like there should be more of an "evolving" difference between the first and the second, the second just looks like a bigger version of the first.  I don't think grass is a good typing for a hyena, unless maybe if you focus of bark? or roots? maybe make it a grass ground if you are hooked on grass, then it can kinda come across as savanna. and that may be a good typing match up. ground type typically focus on having high attack, and being that spotted hyenas are very aggressive, it would fit it well.

Actually, I wanted it to have bear trap teeth in its mouth but the guy who commissioned it for me had other ideas. I personally like the idea of a Grass hyena because it could be mixed with a man-eating venus flytrap type plant (picture Audrey II from Little Shop Of Horrors). Plus, it has a new move called Leaf Fang which is basically a Grass version of Thunder/Fire/Ice fang with a 10% chance of sleep.

I'm not so sure how leaf fang would work out because grass isn't a physical attack typing.  If you want to have it represent a venus flytrap, it should be more apparent that it is. maybe making its mouth wide set like a VFT?  or maybe have it at the end of its tail?  i feel like reds need to be accented in there to help bring out the venus aspect.

Well, there's always Sceptile with Leaf Blade and Breloom with Seed Bomb. Grass does have its fair share of physical attackers. Plus, my grass hyena's hidden ability is Strong Jaw which would give Leaf Fang a boost.

^^' im just being the devils advocate with it.  Strong jaw is a very good idea. 
But keep working on its design, it has a lot of potenial.  
i just dont think the idea is flushed out for him quite yet design wise.

The hyena is my own personal Grass Starter. My fire starter is a bunny who turns into a Fire/Fairy jackalope and my water starter is a squid who becomes Water/Fighting with a Japanese sushi chef motif.
