I designed this with an elvish-LARP-esque wedding in mind haha! Course, that might just be me.
Anyway, this is a single barrette, clip-in piece for the back of the head. The bones are part of a coyote spine and they're all drilled and connected with copper jump rings and glued for extra support. The vertebra pieces are attached at the top so that they move and dangle with the movement of the head. A vintage, rhinestone, silver scarf clip hangs from an inner flower. Flowers are vintage faux silk and the feathers are lavender and white marabou and bleached peacock feathers.
Size: 1ft long and 9-10in wide

This is gorgeous! I saw the thumbnail through the corner of my eye, and from the way I saw it it looked like the face of a bald eagle or something.
It was weird but so pretty-esq XD.
The whole thing is just completely breath-taking, although I dunno if I'd wear bones on my head haha!

You are an incredible artist! I just fell in love with the Elegant Gothic/Whimsical Earthy look of this piece. So after drooling over it for two days I bought it. I can't wait to take it to a fabric store and start picking out fabric to make a simple dress that matches it. I might even try to find some bones to make sure they are matching pieces!

It might be awhile between grad school and house hunting but when I do get a dress made I will be sure to post it and I will make sure to let you know. Just looking at the picture I am torn on whether to make it a simple dress to draw attention to the Hair piece or something more glamorous.

I just hope you don't boil them, the smell is beyond horrible, and weakens the bone structure. I use to boil cow heads I got from my slaughter house job. I boiled them outside on a wood fire in a big metal tub - thankfully I lived miles away from anyone in the country then.

Nooooo I don't boil them lol. I let nature take care of it first and then I bleach the rest off followed by a nice peroxide bath. XD
Haha my mom would kill me if she caught me boiling animal parts in the kitchen LOL. Haha I can imagine how awful that must've stunk!

Good, and sounds like you have a system.
If you get into making bone art regularly you may want to use Dermestid Beetles. They clean the bones in no time and are a great way to speed up the process. I found a site that sells the beetles here [link] (no experience with them, just a link to some live beetles).

this is awesome.. I would totally rock this too! It wouldn't go in my hair sadly, since I have dreads in the back (and nothing, I mean nothing, clips into those!). I'm sure it's going to go to some happy home. I love making jewelry where I wouldn't mind if it doesn't sell. It's a good sign that you've made a good piece, and it probably will sell anyway.
