Память отшибло напрочь, поэтому единственное что оставалось - это с горя вставить кому-нибудь конкретных дюлей. Пробегавший мимо татаро-монгол оказался как нельзя кстати...

Was Ilya Muromets a Christian-era hero? I had a vague notion that he was Pre-Christian. Not criticizing, just asking. I'm not sure, and I'd like to know.

There is no actual Russian pagan epos. Ilya is even a saint in Russian Ortodox Church.
But he lived at times of prince Vladimir, who plays in Russian epic tales kinda the same role as king Arthur in the Celtic ones, and who actually baptized Russians, so you're not entirely wrong.
