Trying to be more loose with my watercolors, more experimental in my techniques and washes - and more curious about what I see in the piece out of the shapes it makes rather than what I want to see.Related content

I've always been intrigued by the concepts of dark unicorns, and I think you captured quite a moody look to this guy. It's so atmospheric with the white woods and dismal feel beyond him. I love the color washes in the background, the purple and blue really give a nice effect and sense of night-light. Interesting how you daubed those colors on the unicorn, too, almost as if the light is washing down to his dapples. Amazing!
I started looking at artwork more in terms of shapes, too. It really does help break down the bigger picture, which is not only easier to draw, bit by bit, but also allows you to look at the illustration in a new perspective too.

Perfectly said, and it definitely shows in this piece. I think that balancing act, between pure and corrupt, dark vs. light, makes all the best stories, whether they're written in words or painted in pictures. And of course, it's my pleasure!
