Description I have had a lot of people telling me they want to use my design idea... I had posted it to help out fellow cosplayers, but also to put it out there that I thought of this way first, as I still have not been able to complete the quadsuit.

All I want in return is that you don't say you thought of the design yourself, and say "I got the idea for the design of the suit from Lithe-Fider" or something. Then I'm cool with it. But if you do use my idea and go around saying you thought of it yourself that is PLAGIARISM and you should feel very bad about it.

...

More cosplayer insanity. I want to make a quadsuit of a realistic-to-the-game wolf Okami Amaterasu.

But yea, this is my plan for how I’ll do it…where the foam will be, how I stand, etc. (Drawn on top of my actual silhouette from a photo) I loved how this Kilala was done (she can be seen here: [link] ) , but it always bothered me how long the legs were. I decided I will try and do a suit that has me down on all fours at a flatter angle, so my butt is less in the air and my back legs are always kinda bent. It will have a thinner suit that is more lean / lithe looking like a real wolf, with a build up of foam on my thighs to fake a knee and foam on my calfs to fake the ankle.

The effect is completed by a fake head higher than my real head….hiding the fact my head is so low (and butt is still kinda in the air). My hands raised up only about 6 inches. If I do it right I should still be able to sit and walk around a little.

Yes it look super crude around where my hands are supported, I'm going to do something completely different there, I just had not designed yet how I'd do it at the time of this drawing, but in seeing some new quadsuits doing elastic joints just past the hand, that simulate a joint (while still supporting the wrist) I'll try something like that. Basically YES I'll support my hands better, though in a suit like this at such an angle I am expecting to be laying around / sitting a lot and not going too far walking wise on ll fours. I have pretty long arms...tho I also have long legs, so it like cancels out the arms. I won't actually be able to walk around on all fours as much.

So I can see / breathe, there will be a plastic white mesh in the neck front. The longer neck fur will overhang it so it will not be too visible. Maybe I can put in a little electric computer fan so it blows air past my head in that space and out through the mesh. The mouth of the wolf will be parted too so it will have airflow down through the open area of the neck inside.

The light blue-green parts are where the lower parts of the legs will be removable with Velcro. There will be a zipper all up and down the back.

I have some crazy ideas of hooking up an apparatus to my head so when I turn my real head it maybe turns the Ammy head a little from side to side…or if I tilt my head down it will open / close the jaw. Though atm I'd rather just get the head stable.

It's half done! I just need the time to finish it haha. I mostly am scared to get to the front hand supports, but I have lots of parts done (like the disc, arm wings, all feet wings head structure, body padding). EVENTUALLY DAMMIT. It's one I really want to finish.

Wouldn't it get extremely uncomfortable to walk with thoes small stilts, with your knees bent the entire time? Also, good luck keeping your neck strained up like that while wearing it.
I predict back problems in your future while wearing this suit. D:

Btw, working the padding around your legs while they are extremely bent like that slightly mis-shapes the legs from what a real wolf like Ammy's looks like.
But I do understand why you want to do the stilts so close to the ground, in the never ending attempt people make to have a quadsuit look and move like a real animal, stilt modifications are bound to happen. You want the correct wrist movement, yeah?
I understand that. :I

This is an outdated design, I do have plan to lengthen the silts a litte and use the full wrist supports, but yea, they WILL still be shorter then most I know. I also didn't plan to be in this very long at a time, just a few hours, nor would I be standing up like that all the time (sitting/laying a lot, standing upright to walk when not in public areas).

The padding I've been doing actually looks pretty good even in motion, and the 'bent leg' pose is actually NOT as uncomfortable as it looks, (I'm pretty flexible/light to do it) they won't be at an extreme bend. Also for my neck it won't be held /quite as high/ as in this pic, and I'll of course have a handler to help direct me around as I'll be mostly blind. The head also is a lot lighter then it looks, as it's smaller then most fursuit heads, hollow, and has lots of padded supports, more then this pic.

Basically I'm going to sacrifice a little comfort in lieu of better realism, and I understand that :'D I really want to push this for slim and wolf like. Thanks for all the tips.

Technically, this design isn't yours. I've seen plenty of others come up with quadsuits just like this way before you posted this pic, even if they weren't Amaterasu.

Still a nice concept drawing though.

Hullo. ^^ I am working on an Okami Quadsuit as well.

This design looks awesome... ^^. Go go go!

And about moving tails, I've seen pretty simple animatronic wolf tails. Actually, wolftronix.com has a sweet how to, but it doesn't seem to be loading at the moment.

(I'm actually making false animatronics for my costume...)

Great suit design, but as a quad, your design is a bit dangerous/uncomfortable. Putting the weight on your wrists like that for more than an hour can cause serious damage, and it will hurt! I've been working on a quad design that takes the weight off the wrist and puts it onto the fore-arm, but I'm still working it out...

Other than that, it's a really cool design!!

Lithe-Fider In reply to Roy-Fan-33 [2008-05-16 04:17:05 +0000 UTC]

Thanks very much! Yes I realized my error in that after consulting with the quadsuit community on livejournal. I'll be fixing that for sure. I know of the tried and true methods like using padded PVC tubes on your forearms or wrist crutches. I really wanted to retain wrist movement tho, the loss of wrist movement on quadsuits always makes them look so stiff. Also, I didn't plan to be on all fours for that long at a time, I wouldn't be in the costume for more than a few hours to begin with and I plan to be sitting most of the time, and if I need to walk anymore than a few yards for show I'll just get up on twos (I'm designing it to look good standing up too for this reason). No need to kill my wrists! X3 I need those for art!

I recently thought up a crazy THIRD option, that I won't be discussing anywhere till I test it, cause it's a lil different. X3 It's sort of a compromise between the two methods, adding wrist support but retaining some movement.

After you test it, share! x3 Quadsuits are so cool! I'm saving up money to get one in 2010! >.> I'm trying to design an arm crutch with a hindged wrist... To say the least, I don't think I'll ever even build a prototype. -_-; But, you never know!

Lithe-Fider In reply to Roy-Fan-33 [2008-05-16 04:46:03 +0000 UTC]

I will if it works! haha! I like your idea of a hinged arm crutch. tat sucks you need to wait that long X33 I wish you all the best in getting you idea to come to life sometime soon.

Okay I will share my crazy plan, but it will sound nutty, as it makes sense, just it's hard to explain: My plan is kinda like a hinged wrist brace, combined with the idea behind how an elephant's feet work [link] . It will transfer weight up the arm and the position of the hand will be downwards, and not allowed to hyper extend past 180 degrees flat top hand wise, but can bend up to 45 degrees inwards palm side, and will also there will be so side to side wrist movement for more support.

I think its great for the cosplay communtiy to share ideas and what not, i hope you don't think i'm stealing from you or anything i just got this idea for maknig Amaterasu from seeing an amazing cosplay of Wolf Link from twilight princess lol, anyways good luck with yours and thank you so much for making my guess on how its made right lol

Glad I helped! X3 I am not even sure if this method will work (It won't be started till August) but I think it will. I have had a lot of people telling me they want to use my design idea...but oh well, that's what I get for posting pics huh? I had posted it to help out fellow cosplayers, all I want in return is that they don't say they thought of the design themselves, and say "I got the idea for the design from Lithe-Fider" if anyone asks. Then I'm cool with it.

Either way the final costume look will be very different between people even if others use this deisgn idea. Good luck with your quadsuit! Post pics when you are done!

very insanelty ambitious project. *nods* Oddly enough, I'm making one too. XD For Otakon. Except the character I'm trying to pull off has SIX legs, and I have yet to come up with a coherant design where that would work well. The only design that I think might work the best so far out of all of them is one where it would be really easy for me to fall flat on my face. XD So graceful. I really wanna see this when it's finished, though!!

Oh my gosh! That's so ambitious! I encouraged you to do this, but wow, that is a lot of stuff to consider. I didn't realize how much a quad suit would require. But you can totally do it!

One thing though: when you rest on all fours, your hands appear to be in a semi-fist formation. I know you said you wouldn't be like that for long (only for photos) but something about those handle bars worry me. How much padding are you going to put for your hands? I'm sure your wrists will be tired more than anything else. Maybe you should pad those up a lot.

What are the feet going to be made out of (hands and feet paws)? Are you going to use shoes with fur over them or make fluffy slipper-paws?

I'm wondering what it would be like if you hooked a harness up to your arms that was connected to your tail. That way, when you stretched out for say, a photo, you would put your arms foreward, pulling on the harness and picking your tail up. That'd be cute!

I can't wait to see the outcome of this project! Good luck, Lithe-Fider!

Lithe-Fider In reply to Vaperfox [2007-02-22 02:15:04 +0000 UTC]

Oh YEA...CRAZY lots of padding. X33 like 3-4 inches worth of wrapped foam (which would compress a lot and not seem so big). X3 My hands are not fists but holding onto the bar (fingers wrapped around just like bike handle bars). It's a lot more natural than just walking on fists or hands. A friend of mind's friend made some quad-like-suits for a play, she did it like that (she tells me). So they have control / can hold onto the ends of the paws and are more comfortable. Still, I so won't be like that all day or even for more than a few minutes at a time... XD Mostly I'll be sitting or lean back on my legs.

I wanted to not have the front legs extened so much so I can bend my front arms like a dog, with the bends of the elbow and wrist in similar places (I faked a higher elbow / shoulder of the dog with the foam as you can see).

Bottoms of the feet should have rubber pads so they are non-slipperly, but I won't have shoes on, just like 'fluffy slipper paws' as you put it If I can find some slim slip-in shoes that add support I MAY put them into the feet. The suit will be as slim as possible, I wanna look like lithe!(lol bade joke on my name)! ^^

Oh I'd LOVE to have my tail move!! I would at least like to get it so I can get the head to move....if I can rig up a jaw moving thing that would make my year. X3

Thanks for the good luck wishes, I'll need it!
