Description Just exploring colors again with this one -- I'm thinking it is a bit too muddy for night, though I rather like the colors on the right edge. Doing this hit and miss may take a while.

12x16" 30x40cm acrylic on hardboard

Hmmm... I still see this scene as a daylight one rather than a night one. Maybe because of the bright background? Or does the background actually meant to be the lights of the city? If that's so, maybe it should be toned down a bit. Oh, and I have to mention that the trees on the middle and the right are awesome ><

I usually paint a foggy atmosphere not only to obscure the details I don't want to bother with, but to diffuse the light, which is the case in both of these paintings. Nocturne No.3 did not turn out too good and No.4 not at all, so I think I'm done with this idea -- largely because I could not find a color to paint night with... that I liked. I'm thinking of taking up watercolors for a while as I seem to be scrapping off more paint that I'm leaving on.

Well, I think the only thing that made the paintings didn't look like a night scene is the bright background... I don't know if this will work, but applying a dark area in the top of the background will at least give the impression of a dark sky. I'm not that expert in painting(I only did watercolor and pencil myself) but that's the only thing I could say. The rest is awesome~

That's kinda bad... but I love to see the third and fourth in the series~

It's a beutiful picture! It reminds me on a very typical rainy day in Berlin.
When I look at your painting, it gives me hope, I'll be able to walk again in Streets of Berlin, soon.

I'm surprised that google doesn't have Berlin in street view. Sorry. However, if you go to [link] their selection of maps has a 'bird's eye view' of Berlin, which is kind'a neat too.

You're right! Sorry, I had completely forgotten. We had once a public debate on google maps, because of data protection.
I will look for a video when I think I've found something, I'll send you the link.
