Description
Picking up his scroll, he padded to the water's edge on the side closest to the beach. Tobin would do the mature thing and practice his powers. Maybe then he could get off this island and away from this stupid cat.
Meaning only to bend the water slightly, Tobin gave it a great push, letting all his annoyance out into the ocean. A large wave rose up from the sandbar, quickly barreling towards the beach and the silver cat on the shore. She seemed to be staring forward, not at Tobin or the others and not even at the wave. Couldn't she it? “Hey, watch out!” Tobin shouted, dropping his scroll. “Get out of the way!” Just then he noticed two more cats near the tunnel, both familiar to Tobin. Pride seemed to be brushing Aspen off with his tail. Tobin wasn't sure if the glowing wave would reach them that far up the beach, but unless she moved it would almost certainly hit the spotted silver cat.
As Tobin watched, The wave split apart. Was this Pride's doing? He'd definitely noticed the wave. It looked like it was going to miss the cats. Indeed, it did flow harmlessly past Pride and Aspen. The silver cat wasn't so lucky, however. She tried running, but she was slow on the sand and… seemed to be running towards one of the offshoots… How could she not see it? It was right in front of her, hard to miss!
The water washed over the cat, making Tobin wince. As it cleared again, the silver cat was left shaking on the beach, drenched through and with something large and sandy-colored perched on her head. Tobin paced along the border of the island, glancing between the cat he'd just soaked and the blue glow at his feet. He wanted to help the cat, but the curse… But what if it wasn't a curse? He'd just be standing here uselessly while the cat struggled across the way. She was on the ground now, having fallen over, and was frantically shaking her head. He had to help!
Picking up his scroll, Tobin took a few steps back and hunched down. He stayed there for a moment, taking in the scene on the beach. If this all ended for him, he hoped Annie could forgive him. At least his heart was in the right place.
With a leap, Tobin ran into the water. “Eeerk!” he groaned around the scroll, not stopping. He kept running, expecting to be pulled under the waves or disappear into a poof of smoke or something at any moment. But nothing happened. He just kept running. “Take that, feather-brains!” he shouted to the sky, his words muffled by the scroll.
Eventually Tobin reached the shore and the struggling cat. Tossing the scroll further up the beach, he turned to help her. “I'm so sorry!” He wailed and grabbed onto a sandy tendril sprouting from the thing on her head. It had so many of them. Tobin wasn't sure what it was, but it was clearly freaking the cat out. He gave the thing a tug, intending to pull it off.
TPT: Beach Episode!
Tobin believes that he cursed the water around the island when he tried sending his scroll out to sea rather than signing or burning it. Really, though, there's just bioluminescent plankton in the area that glow blue when the sun goes down. Coincidentally, he put his scroll in the water just as the sun was going down.
The true curse is that Tobin is failing at introductions and poor Enya ends up paying for it. The "stupid cat" mentioned is Klaus who did nothing wrong, but he whispered something Tobin couldn't hear to the cats nearest him and Tobin decided it was childish. Tobin then does the mature thing and storms off truly acting like a child.
I found it so cute that Pride was walking over with Aspen on his head. I love these two and have been wanting to draw them. Same with Enya. I'm glad her and Tobin finally met, even if it wasn't the most graceful of meetings...
