Description Second piece of art from my information illustration project, a Starter's Guide to Keeping Tarantulas. This is another double-page spread from the instructional book.

Moulting, in case anyone cared (it's okay if you don't) is a crucial point in the life of any spider. If you're going to loose a pet tarantula, it's likely to be through moult or via a moult gone wrong.

The problem I had with learning about moulting in tarantulas, is that all the images of it happening were photos, & with all the mass of legs & bristles & fangs I had no idea which bit was the spider & which was it's exuvia! (shed skin) So for these illustrations, I aimed to be as diagrammatic as possible, making sure the separation between the exuvia & the tarantula was as obvious as possible. I have however, still had confused persons, so I don't think I even managed to succeed in this fully

Anyway. I prefer the other spread to this one, but a lot of people feel the opposite.
All I can say is that I'm looking forward to a day when I don't mess up every project I do!!

Lines in dip-pen & ink, colour in Photoshop CS3 -xxx-

Fantastic job! Your illustrations are really focused and show what's happening concisely. Very informative! Also, spiders = love.

Hej you did a very good job at this. The illustration is actually clear, although you think it's a mess x)
Are you studying tarantulas in terms of biology (or only for illustration of the book)?
