This was inspired by a japanese song I was recently listening to... Ningyo Hime. (or mermaid princess) Those of you who are familiar with the anime series Chobits will be familiar with this song: it is the ending theme for the second half of the episodes. (at least in the japanese version it is)

It is the loneliest song you will ever hear, and if you haven't heard it you really should.... I think that the mermaid in the song is more figurative than literal, but it still made me think of a lonely little mermaid curled up at the bottom of the ocean.

For the amount of time I spent on this, (two days, which is pretty quick for me) I am happy with the result. I don't know why I'm so allergic to doing backgrounds... I had a pretty underwater rockscape in mind to paint, but I guess I got lazy. Oh well. Maybe I'll do a better version someday.

Oh, this is acrylic (made to mimic watercolor) and ink (entirely with a hunt ex-fine nib) on the completely wrong kind of paper (again) if you're wondering.
