Description
because fuck yeah! TERROR BIRDS!!!!!
or, at least the bird-of-prey that decided to become bootleg
phorusrhacids
on
fingerlandia
, most of which evolved on the otisco islands. all these guys are known as "terroraptors", raptors that evolved into, well, terrorbirds...giant flightless terrestrial hunters for the most part. i mean, if
The Future Is Wild
had the
Carakiller
evolve from caracaras, they're no reason as to why something similar/identical couldn't happen on fingerlandia. besides, somebody gotta east some of those
big ass geese
.
anyways, who do we have here?
-running eagle (ontario)
not actually a bald-eagle descendant but actually came from red-tailed hawks. the one seen above is the common running eagle, the largest species, which are found on the temperate grasslands and savanahs of mainland ontario. however, smaller species can be found in other parts of the continent.
this bird took the oversized
seriema
route when it came to hunting. it is a small game hunter, taking down small animals using not only it's feet to stomp on them, but also its beak to grab them and slam their bodies against the ground. running eagles are flightless, their wings mainly used as both rudders for running and display.
they're also monogamous, living in pair that occasionally work together to take down larger prey. when rearing young, they lay eggs in a shallow ground nest made of dirt and whatever soft materials are available. the young, much like everyone's gonna be here, are born eye-opened and ready to to running around. the parent will not only feed it until they're able to hunt themselves, but will make the active effort to protect them due to extra competition/threats from other hunters.
ursature (catharta)
the largest turkey vulture descendant that inhabits the turkey vulture island of catharta. unlike most of the fellas, the ursature is actually more along the lines of a ravenous omnivore that only had 50% of it's diet be other animals (a good portion of it is taken up by the tao'coula and it's chicks/eggs). they're semi-social animals; when food and water are sufficient enough, they wont mind hanging out with each other. however, they're also hunted as young birds; although protected and fed by the mother, the ursature isn't as protective of their young; they're more of a "make alot of babies and hope a couple lives" kind of parents.
in spite of being eat-everything-at-whatever-cost type of creature, they're actually fairly friendly in part due to island tameness.
warjows
were the first to take the step in taming them, and later on pukanis ended up full-on domesticating them as both livestock (meats & eggs) and beast-of-burden.
-tyrant hunter (avisornort)
the largest of these terroraptor (as far as I'm willing to consider currently), this bald eagle descendant is your typical giant solitary hunter, taking down some of the much larger animals on avisornort, and engaging in battle with other tyrant hunter until one either backs down or dies. unlike most others here, the tyrant hunter is a genuinely good parent.
like the others here, their babies are born up-and-ready to go. however, instead of laying a bunch of babies in hopes a few survive, they only lay no more than three eggs at a time (usually only having one or two). the babies are highly protected by the mother, of which will continue to protect/feed them until they either are able to hunt on their own or are chased away by their mother.
-bathna (gigas)
you'd think the island that got all the big birds would have the largest of the terroraptor, but apparently not in this case as the bathna is just a little larger than the ursature.
anyways, the bathna is really everything the tyrant hunter is except smaller. yep, right down to behavior and rearing young, though i guess i do lay 3-4 young since mortality rate is a little higher.
