Description

Shaboodles again all my budding squiggle meisters of the world. Here is with the third and final installment in my 'Introduction to Creating Digital Lineart' series. This time, in this guide, you will learn how to start creating digital lineart using the Linework Layer in Paint Tool Sai, for all you non-tablet users.

And thus concludes another tutorial-like-thing C: Comments are greatly appreciated. I'm always curious to know what deviants and other fellow artists think of my guides so if you can spare a couple of minutes or seconds to just write a small review or comment of what you think of this tutorial (or any of my other tutorials for that matter), I would very much appreciate that.

Don't forget to also leave a comment or favourite the process demonstration if you happen to watch it C:

As always I hope this tutorial was helpful to all my fellow artists and until the next tutorial-like-thing, happy squiggling to all and to all, a toodles! C:

Hello! You seem to know a lot about how to use this layer
How do you color? (Not on the layer) When I try to on a different layer it keeps messing everything and it's really stressing me out to figure out how to color everything  >.<

Hello Kitsune-chan C:
Apologies for the late response. When you say colour? Do you mean like colour with or on the Linework Layer you mean?

Sorry for the late response hun. No I don't use the linework layer to colour. For colouring I use the regular layer. The Linework Layer is just like it's name. It is perfect for creating lineart because it allows you to create vectors. However for colouring, I wouldn't recommend the Linework Layer. It is better to use the regular layer where you can use Sai's brushes to colour your art.

So repeat: Use the linework layer in Sai to CREATE your LINEART. Use the Normal Layer to COLOUR your lineart. DO NOT USE THE LINEWORK Layer for colouring

What i keep having problems with is the lines. they dont look like yours, mine look all pixely instead of looking smooth. am I supposed to change a certain setting or option? (I just started sai so sorry if its a dumb question)

Hello WolfyMay, apologies for the late response.

Don't worry, it's not a silly question and it's good that you asked because you never know if someone else might be having the same issue as you and are looking for the answer. So this info can benefit them as well C: To be honest, I've never encountered a problem like that and I'm not quite sure how to fix it. But, I can try. Quick question, when you first tried this tool, what was the size of your canvas (Width and Length and what resolution was it at? When you create a new Sai document, what are your settings? Canvas size and resolution)

That's ok, I'm just glad you replied! and I Actually just use a drawing of mine and take a picture using my smart phone and send it to my laptop then open it up in sai then outline it. The thing that bugs me is the last time I used sai I had no problem with the lines and it turned out decent. So the only thing I can think of is when I was messing around with the settings, I was able to change the way the lines looked. And now I completely forget what I did to make it look like that...

You're welcome dude.

Glad my tutorial was helpful C:

And don't worry, not everyone knew about the benefits of the Linework Layer. I myself, didn't know much about it once upon a time until I figured out how to use it back in my earlier years of using Sai C: Hence the inspiration behind the tutorial.

Also thank you for the devwatch m'friend.

Is Paint Tool Sai software available for download online? I'm just curious because I draw comics, and so far, I draw them by hand and touch them up using Corel Painter.

Ah don't be. We've all been there dude---looking for any new art/editing software to try out. How'd you think I found out about Sai in the first place along with Photoshop, Open Canvas and the same Corel Painter you use ^^.

And it's no problem. C:
