Description Part 2 is here: [link]

I'm actually against art tutorials.

Not only there are a lot of tutorials made by unqualified individuals (mine might be one too -- I don't know), but I think a lot of people forget that tutorials usually offer a very narrow goal. Tutorials are usually really good at simplifying and trivializing complex steps, and I think this in turn creates a false sense of easiness or cheapness in skill. Tutorials aren't the answer or the solution to refining one's skills -- practice is.

There isn't a tutorial good enough to replace practice.
So, please, don't use this tutorial to "imitate" what you see, but use it to create what is really and truly, 100%, yours.

You should call it a walkthrough instead of a tutorial

I was trying to get rid of this submission silently, but it seems deviantart is eager to inform everyone about how I recategorized something out of my gallery that was submitted like 3 years ago. oO

And yes! Nowadays I call them "demos" as in they "demonstrate" how something is done.

I usually don't follow such tutorials anymore because I've realized it's more important to learn how to *draw* than how to ink or color with computer programs (that is, for someone like me who has to improve his sketches a lot). But I still found a few interesting points in this, especially when it comes to line thickness. I keep forgetting about this even though it gives drawings a lot of character.

I'm glad to know they're all right.

I was walking to class today and then I finally really woke up and thought "gee, I should have held on to that spontaneous tutorial I made last night so that I can make sure it's good when I'm less biased about it in a few days." ... but it's already online, so I uh, yeah, I think too much about things.
