... and the second interruption by another feline takes place. Poor Kaa can't catch a break.

If only he hadn’t installed that doorbell...

It was his fault for just having it hanging down like that in the first place.

That was really a very unnecessary mistake of him. Then Kaa wouldn't have had to waste time with Shere Khan.

That's very true, Shere Khan did hear him sing.

Yeah he was a bit lucky the tiger was around (who is also trying to kill him), but he's more lucky that Kaa lost focus and decided to shiver the mancub awake. Mowgli was still asleep before Kaa did that.

Yeah, Mowgli was never getting away until Kaa forgot to keep his captive comfortable and helpless.

Have you noticed that Mowgli wakes up when Kaa is distracted? He doesn't wake up at all when Kaa plays with the boy with his body and tail. Not even when he throws him in the air and catches by his back and his head. In both encounters his lost focus on Mowgli seems to have caused him to wake up again.

That is true, he sleeps through a lot in that second encounter! So you think Kaa has to concentrate to keep his mental hold on Mowgli? Interesting! I feel like it’s the coils that are important. When the mancub is coiled he becomes fully hypnotized and asleep, and when the coils fall off each time it interrupts his sleep and breaks the spell.

It could be a combination of Kaa's focus and his coils that keep him hypnotized and asleep.
I'm sure if Kaa had one more encounter with him and hypnotized him again... he might remain his focus and grip on the boy

After being defeated and humiliated the second time he's bound to slither off with the boy into the highest trees where no one would bother, interrupt, or know where they even are. That sounds great.

I want to say that he won't play with his food this time, but since he's in a place that he won't possibly be bothered then he won't be able to help it. He gets carried away because it seems to be in his nature. He might enjoy the feel of the boy's feet on his scales too.

In the first encounter he was more straightforward since Bagheera was there, that must have been why he was more playful in the second encounter. Now with the two of them being all alone, Kaa can finally have the mancub to himself.

He’d have to be especially in a playful mood since they have all the time in the world! I’m picturing Mowgli doing some sort of trapeze act on Kaa’s coils.
