Description This is a Polyphemus Moth (Anthera polyphemus),
one of the largest of the Silkmoths in the Saturniidae family.

Because of the large eyespot on each hind wing,
this moth is named after Polyphemus,
the one-eyed giant of Greek myths.

Oh, this is beautiful. I once was lucky enough to find one wandering around my porch light -- it sounded like a bird or something at first! The one I found was much, much larger than this one for sure. Say, is this a female or male do you know?
