Description
This is my entry based in the theme "Red and Black" for our weekly art-jam organized by my friendLook in my journal for all the other entries !
I've never mixed so many different media as for this one! It's made with soft pastels, oil pastels, coloured pencils, HB pencil, ink and pastel pencils.
I have no idea what it's about or why I thought of that. I think it's maybe a witch brewing a fire potion with salamanders. Maybe some memory of my old Harry Potter obsession

Les couleurs sont encore une fois super jolies, ce rouge est une belle trouvaille décidément

J'adore dessiner des petits monstres partout... souvenir de cours ennuyeux au collège et lycée, j'en avais partout sur mes cahiers
Je ne sais pas si ce dessin me plaît, je me suis lâchée un peu mais je le trouve en fait un peu trop étrange pour moi

As you already know I love it. it´s interesting to see you draw something so different from what you normally draw. i guess that´s the fun in the art-jam.
The red glows still amaze me. Oh, and the face is a lot better now that you added some shading.

Yes, the art-jam makes us push our limits! That's all the fun of it. Your advice for the shading was a good idea!! The glow effect is something I will keep in mind for other works - it's interesting.

Ahhh, I love this one! The dark black makes the red even brighter and that`s so cool. All these little details, the salamanders and the thing on her shoulder are so cute

In fact it's very difficult for me to find ideas when you have to do a theme. Is it like this for you at art school too, when you have to do a piece and you haven't chosen the theme yourself? I find it very hard!

You`re so welcome! Maybe you didn`t know but I like creepy stuff. Okay, it depends on how creepy but this one is really cool. I`m glad you did this even if I think your other idea would have been at least as good as this one. You can still do it
Oh yes, I can hardly ever choose the theme myself at art school. And it`s soooo difficult to do something you don`t really want to do or to find ideas. Lately it`s so boring we always have to do the same. Take a painting by a famous artist (this time a room with a window) and put in one or two persons. Ahhh, I`m so fed up with it. You know it`s kind of a competition: "Whose painting resembles the original one the most?"

Yeah, it is really not fun at all. I draw so much at home (what I want to draw) because at school I`m not motivated anymore. Hope that will change soon.

I understand, I draw a lot at home too because we have other themes at my art class, they're kind of cool but they don't motivate me so much
But you must really try to be motivated because it's important for your studies!! Maybe the simplest way is to decide that your art class is just for technical training and exercices, but that it is giving you useful tools for later.
Yes, I saw the Messengers with Kris and I was really scared!!! It was excellent and she acted so well!

We don`t even have such themes. The only advantage is that our teacher accepts almost every idea we have. For example, if we have to an acryl painting and you would prefer an oil painting, then you can go talk to him and he`s okay with it. I get my motivation back with choosing ideas that remind me of things I like. So I chose to paint a man with a baby (just like Edward and Nessie) into the room.
Kris is really an excellent actress. I haven`t seen any movie where she wasn`t great!

Kim - I like this one. The range of light to dark tones is impressive and it gives this drawing a lot more impact.

Thank you Dave! It's a bit unusual but it was fun. I've found out that you can layer coloured pencil then pastel pencils then a bit of oil pastel on top and you get really vivid tones, more than if you used oil pastel alone. But it's a bit long and complicated

Sounds good, but I suppose you have to be careful about just covering the underlying layers completely with opaque oil pastel. I think that the Sennelliers are probably most useful here, as although some are opaque, many are transparent (I think their website has a colour chart showing which are transparent), but I've not done much experimenting with this...

You're absolutely right! I just covered very small areas, to try and get some bright highlights, and it worked. 
I'd like to do some more oil pastels, but it takes so much time, and I keep postponing it...
