(full view is a tad better) I was just messing around for a few hours on painter and photoshop, and came up with this. I've been storyboarding a lot of my story lately, and this is a scene from two of my original characters' childhood. (Mesu and Gil there, though it's not frightfully obvious, along with Nimbus.)
The sunset is rather cliche, and still a little naive in its depiction, but I'm really happy with this piece. I like vivid contrasts, and shadow... and I was trying to use more realistic light, rather than always depending on the dodge tool, hehe. The midground is very empty, though, and I might fix that later, somehow. Well the whole thing is really simplistic... but it sort of all worked for the feeling I was going for though, so it's not so bad. Bittersweetness...nostalgia, innocence... sentimental crap like that, lol. Anyway, it's not much, but I hope you like it.

This is still my favorite piece by you even after 2 years, and I really want to do a tribute to it.
But due to unforeseen circumstances (mandatory Glee Club retreat to some farm somewhere for the next two days), I won't be able to make the contest deadline.

I havn't read the story from which this comes (yours of course) but I do think I like it just the same. i've always found sunsets to be particularly tricky to make. The colour combinations that they require are often crazily smashed all over the spectrum, it takes a while. But I think with all honesty that you have done well. The sun is a little bit too bright though, or was that your intended effect as well?
ps.Now for this I do need sunglasses, real sun or not? Me and my schitzophrenia induced friend will concure on this and get back to you. Or not.
