Description Tribute to my personal, #1 favorite  thing about the Muppets: the Gonzo and Rizzo duo.

I enjoyed the latest two Muppet movies--especially "Muppets Most Wanted"--but was saddened by the lack of Gonzo/Rizzo friendship, for so many reasons.

First, they were funnier as a pair.  Comedy isn't just action, it's reaction. When Gonzo did a crazy stunt in the earlier movies, the reactions from Kermit, Piggy, Fozzie, etc. were priceless...but as time went on, they got used to him. I'd be willing to bet that's one reason the writers teamed him up with the sarcastic, panic-attack-prone Rizzo: Gonzo will never fail to get a strong reaction from him. Now, in these last two movies, when Gonzo blew up his company building or performed the Indoor Running of the Bulls, they just sort of went :iconouplz: Gonzo's insanity isn't half as funny without Rizzo there to scream "Light the lamp not the rat LIGHT THE LAMP NOT THE RAT!"

Second, it made them more human (rat...Whatever). They could let their guard down around each other, dropping the "always insaaaine!" and "always snarking" to talk about something serious like family, loneliness or literature. And their friendship just reminded one that they were both social outcasts. It just made so much sense. Separate them, and they're back to just being flat cardboard cutouts of a cranky rat and a Weirdo.

Finally, it just added more to the Muppets in general, to have that subplot. Of course the Muppets should be about Kermit's relationships with Fozzie and Piggy. But where are you without the Gonzo/Rizzo subplots? Imagine if "Lord of the Rings" only followed the hobbits, with brief cameos from Aragorn, and virtually no focus on his quest to become king or his friendship with Legolas and Gimli. Or how about if "Star Wars" only followed Luke, with just the briefest cameos from Han and Chewie.

Luckily, "Muppets Most Wanted" at least had a new fantastic pair: Sam Eagle and the French detective. I may have to draw some fanart for those two.

With any luck, Gonzo and Rizzo will be a team again in the inevitable third Muppet reboot movie.

I do not own Gonzo and Rizzo.

Thanks! Muppets rock. I hope they make another movie (as good as "Most Wanted").

If it's of any interest of you, Gonzo and Rizzo were reunited last Thanksgiving during that Lady Gaga/Muppet special (naturally, I didn't watch it for Gaga lmao). During the special, they had special questionnaire inserts where the Muppets told us what they liked to do during the holidays and Gonzo & Rizzo answered a few together.

Yeah. I mean sure it could've used a little work in terms of format (too much Gaga, not enough Muppets), but what worked worked well and the Muppet bits were among what worked.

Same. Though I like Lady Gaga as a singer, I did not like the way she played off of the Muppets. The whole secret to what makes most Muppet-human interactions so hilarious is that the humans normally don't *treat* the Muppets like puppets. They play it completely straight. In that special though, Gaga just sounded like she was talking to sock-puppets in some presentation for kindergarteners.

Some celebrities aren't the best actors and as such, their chemistry with the Muppets don't always result in the best performances. One good example had to be The Muppets' Kitchen with Kat Cora: good chef she was, but couldn't act for squat.

According to the writer of the first movie, Rizzo didn't get much to do in the movie because they couldn't think of anywhere for him in the script.

Yep, I've heard that.

A short extra clip on You Tube also implies that Rizzo and Gonzo are still friends, but Rizzo just doesn't care about the spotlight (because Jason Siegel gave him half his lunch instead).

Thanks!

I fear the background may be a bit too bright.

True.

Only when I saw "The Muppet Show" did I understand WHY the Muppets like psychedelic stuff so much. They came out in the '70s, and were just going with the trend. Everything about the Muppets seems to random, but it all goes back to what was going on in the Muppet show and what their jobs were on it.
