Sorting

The Sorting Hat begins, “So, you’re from an Order of proud warriors—”

“Heroes. Proud warrior heroes. Hint: Gryffindor.”

“Now just a moment. You’ve all the Gryffindor traits down to a T, to be sure. But you’ve also got quite a bit of Slytherin in you, and you also wore Slytherin colors,”

“When I was with the Order of the Kree. But I betrayed them. Because that was the chivalrous thing to do. Anyway can’t you read my memories? I aspired to join the Ministry of Magic’s Auror Air Force for Merlin’s sake!”

“That takes ambition… and you’re also known to cheat…yes, you break rules very often….”

“Like Harry Potter? Who was…what House again? I can’t remember.”

“Harry Potter? He was in Gryffindor, but I’m not Sorting Harry Potter right now, I’m sorting y—”

“Hang on, I didn’t hear that. What House was Potter in?”

“Gryffindor—”

“I’m a trifle deaf in one ear,”

“GRYFFINDOR!” the Hat screams, loud enough for the entire Great Hall to hear.

Carol quickly takes off the Hat and hops off the stool, sprinting proudly to the Gryffindor table.

"...so the Skrull are the bad Vampires?"

There are many subspecies of Vampires. Some look like Nosferatu, while others are indistinguishable from living humans. A secretive species, Vampires tend to keep their affairs to themselves, hence why nearly no one in Harry Potter's crowd knew about the war between the Kree Vampires and the Skrull Vampires. The Kree viewed themselves as "the good vampires," protecting themselves and the Humans from the ugly, monstrous, "bad vampires," a la "Blade 2." But Carol Danvers would eventually learn that the truth wasn't so simple.

In fact, the Skrull were labeled as "evil" only when they refused Kree rule. The fact that they had to work harder to disguise their vampiric nature also made it easier for them to be viewed as sinister monsters. But most Skrull never take more blood than they need, and aren't killers. The Kree, on the other hand, rule the Undead with an intolerant fist, much like Dakota Fanning's posse in "Twilight." But without the sparkles. Just sparkley scuba-suits.

A family of Skrull Vampires turned out to be hiding in Hogwarts, living in the Room of Requirements. They emerged only at night, in bat form, to feed on drunk seventh-years (who would feel light-headed the next morning anyway). But the Skrull couldn't stay at Hogwarts forever, and had to find a new home. Carol left to help them form a new homeland in a magical dimension.

Before leaving to help the Skrull find a new home in a more magical realm, Carol magically encased a bit of her Vampire blood into the small two-way mirror Nick used for communication. She warned him to only contact her for an emergency. Naturally, Loki's army, Hydra and Ultron weren't really emergencies, since fighting insidious deadly overlords is practically a hazing ritual for Hogwarts students by the time Harry Potter had graduated. But if the good guys were ever to lose to said overlord, now that would count as an emergency.

Human Life

Carol comes from the wizarding world of the 1990s. While Harry Potter was fighting Voldemort across the pond, young Carol was a Thunderbird student at Ilvermorny Institute of Magic, in America. Carol did not get along with here pureblood family. This being a time when prejudice of all kinds was in full-swing in the wizarding world, Carol's father did not like her choice to partake in daredevil sports rather than "proper" magic, nor her friendships with "mudbloods" and "halfbreeds." Carol wound up spending most of her winter and spring breaks at the home of her best friend, Maria Rambeau , who she met in flying class. The two girls were Quodpod champions of the school, and Carol become a like a second mother to Maria's young daughter Monica . (Teen pregnancy isn't stigmatized in the wizarding world.)

Carol and Maria's flying instructor, Madame Wendelin Marvellius, had a secret. Just as Remus Lupin had to hide his identity as a werewolf to keep his career in this bigoted era, Marvellius had to hide the fact that she was a vampire. Sick of prejudice and war, Wendelin was working to create a powerful Portkey that could transport Skrull vampires to a dimension where the Kree couldn't reach them, ending the war. Her research required the "Sorcerer's Stone" (as those Yank wizards call it). Through owl correspondence, Nicholas Flammel agreed to let Marvellis have "the Philosopher's Stone, provided you promise to return it to me for destroyal once you're finished."

An unknowing Carol Danvers agreed to help her flying instructor deliver a mysterious small parsol across the Atlantic Ocean via brooms. Marvellius just needed an extra pair of eyes, to watch for attackers, and trusted no one but her most devoted student. Attackers came, in the forms of giant bat-like monsters. The brooms went down somewhere in the Irish countryside. Marvellius confessed her vampiric nature to Carol, and urged her to destroy the Stone before the bad guys could get a hold of it.

Yon-Rogg hit Marvellius with a Killing Curse before she could destroy the Stone. So Carol took aim, and blasted the shinny red rock, still having no clue what it was. The Philosopher's Stone exploded, and Carol's body absorbed its magical energy. Seeing that she had become a living Philosopher's Stone, Yon-Rogg cast a Memory Charm on Carol to give her amnesia, and then changed her into a vampire. As in "Dracula," a vampire transformation involves drinking each other's blood.

True Gryffindor

Originally an Ilvermorny Yank, Carol never set foot in Hogwarts as a living human. It was only when she crash-landed in the middle of the Hogwarts library that she became ripe for Hogwarts Sorting. In fact, no sorting was necessary, as Carol wasn't a student there; just a Vampire helping seventh-year Nicodemus Fury hunt some Nosferatu. But Carol being Carol insisted in making sure she was sorted into Gryffindor. Despite her Slytherin methods for attaining her desired House, it was a good fit for her values and strengths.

Carol was proud to serve the Kree, until she learned the truth. Then she was kind of p*ssed. But despite her usually stubborn nature, she put her pride aside as soon as she realized innocents were being hurt. In fact, throughout her adventures, even back when she served the Kree, the one way to shut Carol up was to point out a genuine flaw or mistake, because at the end of the day, Carol just wants to do what's right.

During her final battle with Yon-Rogg, she finally conquered her emotions. When Rogg tried to bait her into putting aside her powers for a "fair" fight, she demonstrated infinitely more humility, reasoning and heroism than many other Gryffindors would have, and blasted the bad guy in the middle of his speech, spatting, "I don't have to prove anything to you."

Carol Danvers had always had the fiery spirit and daredevil courage of a Gryffindor, but this was where she finally proved that she understood chivalry as well.

Broom

As a human playing Quodpod for the Wampus House team at Ilvermorny, Carol rode an Avenger broom--an American model popular in the 1990s. Brits preferred the Nimbus 2000 and Firebolt models, as Avengers were prone to speeds that were downright unsafe. But American insanity aside, Nick Fury loved the name, and used it as inspiration for the name of his own Order he was secretly planning to someday put together: the Order of the Avengers.

Wand

Carol is reborn, she is among the most powerful superheroes in the cosmos, and she specializes in flying! So what else would her wand contain but a Phoenix feather.

On her wand’s wood, Acacia:

“Garrick Ollivander found that wands made from Acacia were difficult to match with a wizard. Acacia wands generally refused to produce magic for anyone but their owners, but conversely, seemed to withhold their full power from all but the most gifted wizards.”

Patronus

The Ornate Hawk-Eagle is not the largest bird of prey or the most well known, but once you see them they’re hard to forget. These tropical birds start their lives with an unremarkable plumage, that eventually takes on a new flamboyant coloring and retractable crest. Like Carol, they can obliterate a wide variety of opponents, from mammals to reptiles.

Notes: I was so pumped to do this one. I predicted she'd be a Gryffindor, and I wasn't disappointed. Not only is she clearly a Gryffindor, but she's one of the ones that gets their House most "right." Like Black Panther, her chivalry trumps her desire for a blaze of glory, and she is forced to reconsider what kind of chivalry she actually stands (or flies) for.

UPDATE: I changed her Patronus. For god knows what reason I made it the Bateleur Eagle at first, which looks more like a vulture.
