Description

All of these Disney/DreamWorks/etc. flappers are getting re-polishes for the new '20s. They will have a new blog on tumblr, as well as a new folder in this DA gallery, starting New Years of 2020. All of these old versions meanwhile are going to be dubbed "WIPS." Chrome out.

In the mid 1920s, the United States was only accepting Asian immigrants from the Philippines or Japan. Akima, luckily, fits the bill, being a Japanese immigrant, and makes it to America. Akima’s family immigrates when she’s a child, and she grows up homesick for Japan. As a result of her homesickness, and the racism she puts up with on a daily basis, Akima develops a strong empathy for anyone who appears powerless and alone.

Akima grows up to be devoted to justice, and gets a job as a secretary to a police detective named Kurso. She is fiercely loyal to her employer, believing that she is helping him clean up Los Angeles. But everything changes when Akima and her new boyfriend Kale discover that Kurso is actually the most corrupt cop in the country, and up to his eyeballs in debt to Al Capone, Arnold Rothstein, Bugs Moran, and a number of other notorious gangsters. Now Akima and Kale are in a vicious battle to expose their employer for what he is, and save the city from a tyrant in sheep’s clothing.

For those who don't recognize this gal, she is Akima, from "Titan A.E." More non-Disney girls are on the way. (Anastasia, Tzipporah, and Chel are all going to have more extravegant outfits, and thus may take a bit longer.)

Akima's suit-dress was based almost directly off of one shown on this 1920s fashion website:
www.uvm.edu/landscape/dating/c… (You may need to scroll a bit to find it.)

Akima was very tricky to design for. She's a great character, but visually, her only defining trait is her anime hair. For a long time she was just going to have a plain dress based off of her green shirt and belt; but finding some images of 1920s suit dresses, I realized that a suit would go with the "cargo clothes" look Akima sports throughout the movie. The odd color tint to this picture was necessary, because without it she looked like a leprechaun; and with it, she's far more immediately recognizable as a "Titan A.E." character.

I do not own the character Akima; she belongs to Don Bluth

Titan A.E sounds very familiar. Maybe I should try re-watching it.It's probably something from childhood.

It came out I think in 2000. It's a flawed but enjoyable movie.
