Description

All of these Disney/DreamWorks/etc. flappers are getting re-polishes for the new '20s. They will have a new blog on tumblr, as well as a new folder in this DA gallery, starting New Years of 2020. All of these old versions meanwhile are going to be dubbed "WIPS." Chrome out.

When most people think of organized crime in the 1920s, their mind goes to the Italian Mafia, and after that, maybe the Jewish mafia. But the Irish mob was another prominent crime organization in the Prohibition Era. In fact, it was Irish mobster Bugs Moran whose men were gunned down by Capone’s gang in the infamous St. Valentine’s Day Massacre of 1929. Moran is also credited with popularizing drive-by shootings. Irish Chicago gangster Dean O’Banion worked with Al Capone and John Torrio in the early ‘20s; meanwhile, Eddie McGrath controlled the Irish mob of the “Hell’s Kitchen,” neighborhood in Manhattan; Mickey Bowers was a racketeer in New York, and Bill Dwyer was called “King of the Rum Runners.” Ironically, Nucky Johnson, the basis for fictitious Irish mobster Nucky Thompson of “Boardwalk Empire,” was probably not Irish.

Fiona is an Irish Mafia princess. The Daughter of a corrupt mayor and mob boss, Fiona spent the beginning of the ‘20s trying desperately to fit the new mold for “beauty,” binding her breasts and dieting excessively. Then one day, she walked into a Scottish meat shop and started talking to the butcher, a thickly accented immigrant named Mr. Shrek, and everything changed. Now happily married, Fiona is a fashion designer, and couldn’t care less about hiding her beefy, busty figure. Unfortunately, her father disapproves of her marrying a Scottish man. The hitman he hires to dispose of his son-in-law is the non other than the terrifying Puss in Boots.

Fiona's outfit isn't based on anything in particular, though I did have Elinor Glyn from "It" (1927) in mind, as a reference for how a "beef" woman in the '20s might dress.

No one is sober in Shrek and Fionna's part of New York. Or wherever I set their story.
