Having grown up in a single-parent household since young, Arata has learned to become more independent, all so he can prevent troubling or inconveniencing the adults around him. Additionally, he has also become more reserved as a person since he simply prefers not to talk about himself, however, it also results in him cultivating a bad habit of avoiding troublesome things.. such as brushing aside people’s expectations of him and also refusing to open up to his family and friends. It’s not that he doesn’t like interacting with people, but rather that he finds it difficult to talk about his self.

Arata can also be resilient; he rarely gives up in most of the obstacles he’s faced though he can be stubborn to a fault, refusing to back down or give in. He is also quick to pick up on a person’s feelings or mood, which is due to him being overly conscious of people ever since he was a child. He also strives to be disciplined, exercising self-control and wants in order to better himself.

History:
Arata was raised in a single-parent household ever since he was 12 years old, because his father passed away due to a heart attack from overworking. It was then when Arata and his mother moved to Sugigawa in order to be closer to his father’s side of the family. Moving to Sugigawa also helped his mother deal with her grief more easily because Arata’s aunt – who was his father’s sister and also his mother’s close friend – was around to support them during that time.

Besides that, Arata didn't know his parents well enough due to work taking up most of their time. As an engineer, his father wasn’t at home often, which caused Arata’s parents to fight with each other a lot (though it was also partly due to accumulating relationship problems). Arata’s father also believed that working more meant earning more money, which also meant that his family can live more comfortably. However, he was also a very stubborn person who refused to compromise often and view things from a different perspective. Furthermore, whenever Arata’s parents fought, it would take place at home, leaving Arata to stay in his room and endure it or sometimes even come home late at night to avoid being around during these fights. These fights also caused his father to work more so that he could come home less often in order to avoid fighting with his wife. Nevertheless, to Arata his father was still an admirable person who only worked hard for the sake of his family in order for his family to live comfortably.

While Arata stubbornly refuses to let his grief take up a part of his life, he sometimes feels bitter and regrets not having the opportunity to get to know his father better. Since moving to Sugigawa in order to get to know his father and his side of the family better, Arata’s relatives told him stories of his father and even commented a few times about how he resembles his father a lot. Even then, Arata couldn’t help but still feel that he doesn't know his father well. Furthermore, due to the lack of an active father figure in his life Arata found it hard to be like other boys and also felt that he was unimportant to his father.

He also wishes to support his workaholic mother as much as his father did, but he fears that he will become too much like his father who worked so hard that he hardly spent time with his family. Consequently, he also has mixed views of his father because he can’t tell if his father was really a good or bad person. Furthermore, his worry becomes bigger with each year since he is feeling that he’s beginning to resemble his father more now. Hence, Arata’s goal is to overcome his feelings of grief and regret and thus prove to himself that he will not turn out to be like the workaholic his father was.
Other:
● a light sleeper, hence why he dislikes crickets due to the sounds they make during summer.
● despite the impression he seems to leave, he can handle sweet food well.
● adept at household chores!! except for doing the laundry.
● has always wanted a dog, but could never keep one because he and his mom live in an apartment which does not allow pets
● His father used to work as a consultant in an engineering firm. His mother is currently working in a public relations firm.
● Arata and Fujioka Noboru are cousins- Arata's father and Noboru's mother were siblings.
