Description Ballpoint pen drawing with colors and texture added in Photoshop CS. I think it turned out okay to the point that I did another picture like this. The colored textures kinda have a tea-stain, inky look. I liked how it looked.

Yeah, I've kinda hit that point in the month where I have nothing funny to say. Just tired and cranky

Some people propose that Valtiel's wheel controls the shifts between fogworld and the otherworld, which is why he's always there in the beginning when things go to Hell.

I think that's marvelous.

The line work and coloring in this is love! And it's kinda strange that this sticks out for me, but the details in the ankles and hand are phenomenal. The difficultly of hands and feet are well known, but ankles and wrists are just as hard.

How did you get this effect with the colors in Photoshop?? It looks like watercolors, which is really awesome!

Thanks! It's basically the lines are on multiply and the colors and textures are overlayed with various filter effects. It's nothing really fancy

Aahaha, with this sort of pose emblazoned into my mind,
(And Spiel's random commentation, OH SO true,)
I've conjured up this ridiculously cute, heathen, strangely
cannon image of Valtiel And Pyramid Head engaged in
a ritualistic fit of Interpretive Dance.

And how strangely appropriate is this "Tea Stain" look is.

'Neways, picture kicks not-so-figurative arse.

I love that washed look. So simple, yet people don't try it nearly enough!

Do you know about Valtiel's connection to Pyramid Head? Some people think they're the same person (they wear practically the same outfit). I'm guessing he *helps* Heather in SH3, as opposed to James in SH2 because James, wellโ€ฆ

*pillow*

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

LMJWorks In reply to jonathanvair [2006-08-18 00:28:39 +0000 UTC]

Well, Masahiro Ito--the awesome artist that came up with Pyramidhead and this version of Valtiel (Valtiel is actually part of Christian-Satanic lore as a high demon of Lucifier)--said that he did base Valtiel's design off of Pyramidhead's, however they're not the same being.

Pyramidhead is kinda a mashup of several things, and according to Silent Hill lore, his appearence is based off a few things: Civil War-era executioners that were in the area and then also off of the robes and masks that the high priests in the cult that Dhalia, Claudia, and Father Vincent all headed. The executioner is mentioned in SH2, of course, at the Historical Society. PH makes a cameo in SH3 in a painting in a church with a bit of a description of the cult's equiv of Genesis/Creationalism myth, and again in SH4 in a drawing that a young Walter Sullivan did of Jimmy Stone, who was the person that had Father Vincent's position during that decade (....before Walter killed him.) In SH2, in the newspaper article that mentions Walter claiming that the "Red Devil" made him do it, he's not actually talking about Pyramidhead, but actually Jimmy Stone who forced Walter to go through with the 21 Sacrament ritual, which ended up killing them both.

So, while the three Pyramidheads in SH2 are actually in James' mind, the creatures themselves are still fully part of the town's history and other people would be able to conjure up similar demons under the right circumstances.

A lot of that is just in the games themselves . You do have to makes sure you read every little note and check every little spot. And then if you can find it, the really big thick official guide for Silent Hill 3 that came out in Japan has in the back of it the series canon bible, "Lost Memories". Most of that has been translated and placed online, except for a few things like interviews and little burbs by the series creators and artists. And it has a lot of really cool concept art for Silent Hill 1-3 that I haven't seen online anywhere.

That actually, reminds me, Masahiro Ito did a really fantastic mini comic for the Silent Hill 0/Origins soundtrack release that featured Vatiel and Pyramidhead. The thing that really struck me was the fact that he gave Vatiel wings and a weapon--some type of primative gun. His wings kinds looked like planks of wood, and he did make it clear that the cone on his face was definitely a mask. I'm actually surprised someone hasn't scanned it yet, but it is beautiful.

Completely random trivia: Silent Hill's designs took quite a bit of influence from the Francis Bacon's art (and by Francis Bacon I mean the...artist, obviously; not the philosopher dude).

My goodness I love Valtiel. Words cannot express my unreasonable glee at seeing him drawn doing that whole turning thing and looking so lurvely while he's at it.

Only thing I can suggest is that.. it's lighter all around the figure, and darker toward the corners.. So like he's glowing or something.

ah valtiel...him and his wheel turning fetish, if only he had those twin
victims wiggling in the bg

the new coloring style you've adopted works well in the sense of
saturated/rusty look, even though it's considerable a bright piece of
fan art for silent hill.

yet the warm colors are also nicely appropiate, due to how SH3 was
filled with them, like it was a predominant theme of using reds and oranges.
