Description Sam (Jared Padalecki) from Season 8 Ep. 14 "Trial and Error"

Second color pencil attempt with a little watercolor pencil mixed in. Not really satisfied with the results but I'm not ready to give up completely! Lots of room for improvement with lots of practice.

Oh no, you mustn't give up with coloured pencils!! Β This is fantastic, and for a second attempt, you should feel good about yourself for producing such a quality piece of work. Β Why are you not totally satisfied with the results? Β I think the textures within the piece give it an almost religious feel to it, if that makes sense? Β

I consider that quite a compliment! Β  I guess I was not that happy with it because I didn't know what medium I wanted to do it in and ended up going with mostly color pencil which I feel a little more in control of than watercolor. *lol* It seemed a little too mishmoshed to me and maybe too textured.Β  I think I wanted it to be more defined or refined if that makes sense. I played with the scanned piece a little and saturated and darkened the hues which I think helped.Β  Frankly, I was surprised by the wonderful reaction it's gotten.Β  I definitely won't give up my color pencils!

Β  Um..to answer your question, I have to say first off that I'm very new to using watercolor pencils.Β  I've owned a nice set of them for years and only just attempted to use them for this piece. I wasn't sure if I wanted to do the whole thing in watercolor (another medium I haven't used in literally decades) or color pencil, I just new I wanted to work in color for a change.Β  I used the watercolor pencils mostly for the background and Sam's hair.Β  They go on like regular color pencils but then I took a damp paper towel and blended them. The regular color pencils work well over the watercolored background.Β  Hope that answered your question!

Really beautiful work. Β I like the fact that you didn't blend all the lines completely together, it makes a nice effect.
